- 1994 - A US District Court rules that Microsoft violated patents held by Stac Electronics, in data compression used in Microsoft's DoubleSpace in DOS 6. Microsoft is ordered to remove or replace the technology, and pay US$120 million in damages. The court also finds that Stac illegally used access to Microsoft's trade secrets to make Stacker compatible with DOS 6.0. Microsoft is awarded US$13.6 million in damages.
- 1935 - The Mickey Mouse film The Band Concert is released to theaters. Donald Duck also appears. This is the first Mickey Mouse film processed in Technicolor.
- 1939 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Short Subjects, Cartoons) to Disney for the film Ferdinand the Bull.
- 1939 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Special Award) to Walt Disney for screen innovation for the film Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Disney is presented one statuette and seven miniature statuettes.
- 1940 - RKO Radio Pictures releases the film Pinocchio to theaters.
- 1955 - The ABC TV network airs the Disneyland TV show, featuring the third "Davy Crockett" episode, Davy Crockett at the Alamo.
- 1959 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates the film White Wilderness for an Oscar Award in the category Documentary, Features.
- 1959 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates the film White Wilderness for an Oscar Award in the category Music, Scoring of a Dramatic or Comedy Picture.
- 1959 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates the film Paul Bunyan for an Oscar Award in the category Short Subjects, Cartoons.
- 1959 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates the film Grand Canyon for an Oscar Award in the category Short Subjects, Live-Action Subjects.
- 1959 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates the film Ama Girls for an Oscar Award in the category Documentary, Short Subjects.
- 1964 - The NBC TV network airs the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color show, featuring The Scarecrow of Romney Marsh, part three.
- 1969 - The NBC TV network airs the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color show, featuring The Secret of Boyne Castle, part three.
- 1986 - The ABC TV network airs The Disney Sunday Movie, entitled The Girl Who Spelled Freedom.
- 1986 - The Guatemalan Weavers shop in Disneyland closes.
- 1990 - Buena Vista releases the Touchstone Pictures live-action feature film Where the Heart Is to theaters.
- 1995 - Guyana issues 23 postage stamps depicting various Disney characters at work.
- 1995 - The name of the Guest Quarters Suite Resort hotel at Lake Buena Vista at Walt Disney World changes to Doubletree Guest Suite Resort hotel.
- 1999 - In Seattle, Washington, Disney holds its annual stockholder meeting.
- 2004 - At the Fantasyland Theatre in Disneyland, the show An Enchanting Musical opens.
- 2004 - The shareholder advisory service Glass, Lewis & Company hears presentations from Roy Disney, Stanley Gold, Michael Eisner, and many others.
- 1992 - In Miami, Florida, the Grand Prix of Miami is held. The opening round of the IMSA Bridgestone Potenza Supercar Series is held. Shawn Hendricks finishes second in a Bakeracing LT1 Corvette.
- 2003 - At the Streets of Downtown St. Petersburg circuit in St. Petersburg, Florida, the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg is held, round one of the Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich Tires Cup.
- Finishing 5th is the Revolution Motorsports #2 Corvette, driven by Stuart Hayner.
- Finishing 7th is the Revolution Motorsports #10 Corvette, driven by Bobby Sak.
- Finishing 13th is the Derhaag Motorsports #49 Corvette, driven by Randy Ruhlman.
- Finishing 15th is the Derhaag Motorsports #59 Corvette, driven by Simon Gregg.
- In 19th place, but not finishing the race, is the McNichols/Cenweld #23 Corvette, driven by Bob Ruman.
- 1942 - Japanese submarine I-9 launches a floatplane near Oahu, for reconnaissance of Pearl Harbor. It completes its mission undetected.
- 1942 - Submarine U-129 torpedoes and sinks Canadian merchant ship Lennox off British Guyana in the Caribbean. Two die.
- 1942 - Japanese submarine I-17 fires about 20 shells at an oil refinery at Ellwood near Santa Barbara, California, doing US$500 damage.
- 1943 - German Erwin Rommel is put in command of all Axis forces in Africa.
- 1944 - American forces complete the capture of Eniwetok Island.
- 1945 - (morning) The US 1st and 9th Armies begin crossing the Roer river in Germany.
- 1945 - American Marines capture Mount Suribachi on Iwo Jima.
- 1945 - British Bomber Command makes an air raid on Essen, Germany, inflicting great damage.
- 1945 - The Turkish National Assembly declares war on Germany.
- 1945 - A German submarine torpedoes Canadian merchant ship Point Pleasant Park north-west of Capetown, South Africa.
- 1945 - (evening) 378 British bombers attack Pforzheim, in southern Germany. The resulting firestorm kills 17,000.
- 1946 - In Manila, Philippines, Japanese Lieutenant General Tomoyuki Yamashita is hanged as a war criminal. Also, Lieutenant Colonel Seichi Ohta, former head of Japanese Thought Police in Philippines, and Takuma Higashigi, Japanese civilian interpreter. All were convicted of torture and murder of Filipino civilians.
- 1946 - The USSR issues three postage stamps depicting the Moscow Victory Parade, June 1945.
- 1960 - The USSR issues a postage stamp depicting Lieutenant Timur Frunze, war hero.
- 1961 - The USSR issues a postage stamp depicting V.P. Miroshnitchenko, war hero.
- 1969 - The USSR issues two postage stamps honoring heroes of the war.
- 1974 - German Dr. Hans Gisevius dies in West Germany.
- 1983 - US immigration judge Gordon Sacks orders Feodor Fedorenko deported to the Soviet Union, his birthplace. Fedorenko had served as a guard in a Nazi death camp in Treblinka, Poland, between 1942 and 1945.
- 1982 - The US Supreme Court announces it will not decide on the Mesquite versus Alladin's Castle case. The Federal Appeals Court must determine if the circumstances of the case are specific to the Texas constitution, in which case the US Supreme Court would have no jurisdiction.
- 2008 - Microsoft announces it will cease making HD DVD players for the Xbox 360.
- 1979 - The Supply Minister announces in the House of Commons that Canada will produce bullion gold pieces, called Maple Leaf coins, for a three-year trial period. The coins will contain one ounce of gold, and have a face value of $50.
- 2001 - Canadian Coinoisseur conducts a coin auction at the TOREX convention in Toronto, Ontario, over 2 days. An 1885 10c NGC MS-65 sells for $28,000. A 1921 50c ICCS VG-8 sells for $19,000.
- 2009 - In Baddeck, Nova Scotia, the Royal Canadian Mint launches the 2009 $1 sterling silver coin, commemorating the 100th anniversity of the maiden flight of the Silver Dart, the first powered flight in Canada. The coin's design was created by Jason Bowman. The Proof coin features selective gold plating. Mintage limit is 50,000 coins, and 55,000 Proof sets with 1-cent through $2 coins. A coin in Brilliant Uncirculated finish with no gold plating is limited to 30,000 coins.
- 1874 - Major Walter Winfield patents game called "sphairistike" (lawn tennis).
- 1894 - Stanley Cup: Montréal AAA's awarded cup by trustees as Ottawa refuses to travel to Toronto to play.
- 1895 - Jaap Eden skates world record 10 km (17:56).
- 1906 - Tommy Burns beats Marvin Hart for heavyweight boxing champion in 20 rounds.
- 1913 - Jimmy Sinclair cricketer (3 centuries in 25 Test South Africa career), dies.
- 1934 - Casey Stengel becomes manager of the Brooklyn Dodgers.
- 1937 - Claude Buckenham cricketer (21 wickets in four Tests for England 1909-10), dies.
- 1938 - Joe Louis knocks out Nathan Mann in three for heavyweight boxing title.
- 1939 - Lou Thesz beats E Marshall in Saint Louis, to become wrestling champion.
- 1958 - Five-time world driving champion Juan Fangio kidnapped by Cuban rebels.
- 1959 - Betsy Rawls wins LPGA Lake Worth Golf Open.
- 1960 - Demolition begins on Brooklyn, New York's Ebbets Field (opened in 1913).
- 1961 - Wilf Ferguson, cricket leg spinner (34 wickets for West Indies), dies.
- 1964 - Charlie Finley signs a four-year lease to keep Athletics team in Kansas City.
- 1967 - Ted Workman replaces Senator Keith Davey as Canadian Football League commissioner.
- 1968 - Wilt Chamberlain becomes first NBA player to score 25,000 points.
- 1975 - Amy Alcott wins LPGA Orange Blossom Golf Classic.
- 1976 - Major League Baseball owners announce spring training won't open without a labor contract.
- 1980 - Eric Heiden wins all five speed skating golds at Lake Placid Olympics.
- 1980 - XIII Olympic Winter Games close at Lake Placid, New York.
- 1983 - USFL New Jersey Generals sign Heisman winner Herschel Walker (3 years - US$5 million).
- 1985 - Indiana basketball coach Bobby Knight throws a chair during a game.
- 1986 - Despite losing his arbitration case, Boston Red Sox player Wade Boggs receives largest arbitration settlement (US$1.35 million).
- 1986 - Mary Beth Zimmerman wins LPGA Standard Register/Samaritan Golf Classic.
- 1986 - Nelli Fiere-Cooman runs world record 60 metre indoor (7.00 seconds).
- 1987 - Dick Howser retires from managing Kansas City Royals, due to brain tumor.
- 1988 - Chicago, Illinois gives Chicago Cubs the right to install lights and play up to 18 night games.
- 1988 - Yvonne van Gennip skates female record 3k (4:11.94).
- 1990 - Ian Smith 173 New Zealand versus India, 136 balls, world record for no 9 bat.
- 1991 - Greg Haugen scores a split decision over Hector "Macho" Camacho.
- 1991 - North Carolina is first NCAA basketball team to win 1,500 games.
- 1991 - Patty Sheehan wins LPGA Orix Hawaiian Ladies Golf Open.
- 1992 - XVI Olympic Winter Games close in Albertville, France.
- 1992 - Andy Flower scores 115 on ODI debut, Zimbabwe versus Sri Lanka.
- 1993 - India complete a 3-0 series drubbing of England.
- 1993 - Sacramento Gold Miners admitted as Canadian Football League's 9th franchise (first US team).
- 1994 - Cleveland Indians owner Richard Jacobs announces he will pay US$10 million to name baseball field (Jacobs Field) at Gateway (becomes official March 23).
- 1996 - Mark Waugh scores 130 in World Cup versus Kenya, 207 with brother Steve.
- 1996 - Rajindra Dhanraj takes 9-97 for Trinidad against Leeward Islands.
- 1997 - American Express Senior Golf Invitational.
- 1997 - Jeff Sluman wins Tucson Golf Classic.
- 1997 - Tucson Chrysler Golf Classic.
- 2000 - Death of Sir Stanley Matthews, English footballer (born 1915).
- 2006 - Death of Zarra, Spanish footballer (born 1921).
- 1987 - Supernova 1987A in LMC first seen; first naked-eye supernova since 1604.
- 1997 - A large fire occurs in the Russian space station Mir.
- 1887 - French/Italian Riviera struck by Earthquake; 2,000 die.
- 1995 - In Taiwan, a magnitude 6.2 earthquake occurs.
- 1995 - In Cyprus, a magnitude 5.9 earthquake occurs. Felt throughout Cyprus. Also felt in northern Israel and Lebanon.
- 1998 - Tornadoes in central Florida destroy or damage 2,600 structures and kill 42.
- 1999 - An avalanche destroys the village of Galtür, Austria, killing 31.
