  • 1998 - Apple Computer shifts development and distribution of ClarisWorks from Claris back to Apple, and renames it AppleWorks. Claris is renamed FileMaker, with primary focus the FileMaker Pro software. 30 Claris employees are laid off.
  • 2003 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Fairly Oddparents TV show in the US.
    • A laptop computer is used, with a prominent green pear logo on the case.
    • An Internet Web browser is used, called Internet Surfer.

  • 2003 - Sony releases the Sony Clié SJ33 handheld computer in Japan and Hong Kong. It features Palm 4.1 OS, 66 MHz Motorola Dragonball Super VZ processor, 16 MB RAM, MP3 player, 65,536-color 320x320 pixel screen, rechargeable battery. Price is about US$318.
  • 2008 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. Two personal computers appear, and Microsoft stock is shown.
  • 2010 - At Macworld conference in San Francisco, California, Apple CEO Steve Jobs unveils the iPad tablet computer. It features 9.7-inch touchscreen, 0.5 thick unit. Price starts at US$499 with 16 GB RAM.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1963 - The NBC TV network airs the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color show, featuring Johnny Shiloh, part two.
  • 1974 - The NBC TV network airs The Wonderful World of Disney show, featuring Hog Wild part two.
  • 1989 - Buena Vista Pictures releases the Touchstone Pictures live-action feature film Three Fugitives to theaters in the US.
  • 1990 - The Disney Channel airs the Disney Channel Premiere Film Lantern Hill.
  • 1993 - The Hollywood Pictures live-action feature film Blood In, Blood Out premieres in Las Vegas, Tucson, Arizona, and Rochester, New York.
  • 1995 - The CBS TV network airs the Disney special The Best of Country.
  • 1995 - Buena Vista Pictures premieres the Hollywood Pictures live-action feature film Miami Rhapsody in Los Angeles and New York City.
  • 1996 - The Walt Disney World Speedway hosts the Indy Racing League's Indy 200 car race.
  • 1996 - The Toy Story Funhouse opens in Tomorrowland at Disneyland.
  • 1997 - Sierra Leone issues ten postage stamps depicting Disney's Aladdin characters in Christmas scenes.
  • 2002 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A parade float "Lesbians of the Caribbean" includes music similar to that of Disneyland's Pirates of the Caribbean ride, with lyrics "Yo ho ho it's an alternative lifestyle for me".
  • 2004 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates the film Finding Nemo for an Oscar Award in the category Best Animated Feature.
  • 2004 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates the film Finding Nemo for an Oscar Award in the category Best Original Screenplay.
  • 2004 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates the film Finding Nemo for an Oscar Award in the category Best Original Score.
  • 2004 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences nominates the film Finding Nemo for an Oscar Award in the category Best Sound Editing.

  • 2007 - (to January 28) At the Daytona International Raceway in Daytona Beach, Florida, the 45th Rolex 24 at Daytona race is held, round one of the Grand-Am Rolex Sports Car Series.

World War II history:

  • 1938 - German War Minister Field Marshal Werner von Blomberg resigns, due to allegations against his new wife. He suggests Adolf Hitler assume the post of War Minister, which he does.
  • 1939 - Adolf Hitler issues his "Z plan" naval directive, calling for a fleet based in Trondheim, Norway, with 800 ships, including a 100,000-ton 300-metre long battleship with 53-cm calibre guns.
  • 1942 - Japanese troops land at Pemangkat, Borneo.
  • 1943 - 55 American Fortress and Liberator bombers make a raid on the docks and submarine yards at Wilhelmshaven.
  • 1944 - The complete relief of Leningrad is announced.
  • 1944 - (evening) Over 500 British bombers attack Berlin, Germany.
  • 1945 - The Soviet Red Army liberates Auschwitz.
  • 1945 - The British Air Ministry instructs Bomber Command to bomb east German cities to exploit confused conditions during the Russian advance.
  • 1946 - General Georg Thomas of the German Army General Staff claims that Reinhard Heydrich staged the 1939 Munich beer celler explosion to end the peace movement of high army officers.
  • 1975 - Poland issues a postage stamp marking the 30th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp.
  • 1994 - Marshall Islands issues a postage stamp marking the 50th anniversary of the lifting of the siege of Leningrad.

Video game history:

  • 1972 - Magnavox begins production of the Odyssey video game system.
  • 2000 - 989 Sports sponsors the annual "Game Before the Game" football challenge, pitting Marshall Faulk of the St. Louis Rams versus Frank Wycheek of the Tennessee Titans in a game of NFL GameDay 2000. The St. Louis Rams win.
  • 2004 - Sega releases the Sonic Heroes video game for the Xbox, GameCube, and PlayStation 2 in the US.
  • 2004 - Encore releases the Daredevil: The Man Without Fear video game for the Xbox and PlayStation 2 in the US.
  • 2005 - EA Games releases the Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath video game for the Xbox in the US.
  • 2008 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. Sonic the Hedgehog appears on a billboard promoting marriage.

USA coin history:

  • 1894 - The US Senate confirms G.E. Roberts as Mint director.
  • 1976 - The Redfield hoard of 407,283 Morgan and Peace silver dollars is sold at public auction for US$7.3 million to A-Mark Coin Company.
  • 2000 - The US Mint releases a new circulating dollar coin, depicting Sacagawea.
  • 2000 - Wal-Mart stores in the US begin distribution of 2000 Sacagawea dollar coins to customers in change.
  • 2022 - In a private transaction, GreatCollections sells a 1794 dollar, Flowing Hair, Specimen 66 PCGS, possibly first coin struck at Philadelphia Mint, for US$12 million.
