  • 1975 - IMS Associates begins ships its first IMSAI 8080 computer kits to customers.
  • 1986 - Microsoft agrees to buy back seven licensing agreements from Seattle Computer Products for US$925,000, in an out-of-court settlement. SCP had sought US$60 million in damages.
  • 1994 - Apple Computer signs a licensing agreement with Power Computing, allowing the company to produce Macintosh-compatible computers.
  • 1996 - Adobe Systems begins shipping PageMaker 6.5 for Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0. Price is US$895; upgrade price is US$99.
  • 1996 - IBM and Motorola announce they will halt development and sales of Windows NT-based PowerPC systems.
  • 1998 - Iomega begins shipping the Clik removable storage drives.
  • 1999 - Be company stock trades at a high of $39 per share, giving the company a market capitalization of $1.4 billion.
  • 2005 - Microsoft announces it will discontinue support for Internet Explorer on the Macintosh at the end of the year.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1929 - The partnership of Walt Disney Studios is incorporated and renamed to Walt Disney Productions, Limited. Walt and Lillian own 60 percent of the total 10,000 shares; Roy owns 40 percent.
  • 1929 - Disney Film Recording Company, Limited is created as a subsidiary of Walt Disney Productions.
  • 1929 - Walt and Roy Disney set up Walt Disney Enterprises, a division of the company for handling Disney merchandising.
  • 1929 - Liled Realty and Investment Company is created, to own real estate used by the other two Disney corporations.
  • 1929 - The Silly Symphony The Merry Dwarfs is released to theaters.
  • 1930 - Disney completes the Silly Symphony film Playful Pan.
  • 1949 - The Donald Duck film Toy Tinkers is released. Chip and Dale also appear.
  • 1952 - Walt Disney incorporates the WED Enterprises company, to develop ideas for a "family park" to be called "Disneyland".
  • 1959 - Disney initially releases the True-Life Adventure film Jungle Cat to theaters.
  • 1959 - Disney releases the live-action featurette documentary film Mysteries of the Deep to theaters.
  • 1962 - The NBC TV network airs the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color show, entitled Hurricane Hannah.
  • 1964 - Disney releases the live-action short film The Tattooed Police Horse to theaters.
  • 1964 - Buena Vista releases Disney's live-action feature film Emil and the Detectives to theaters. The film was made in West Germany, and is based on a book by Erich Kastner.
  • 1966 - A private funeral service is held by Walt Disney's immediate family at Little Church of the Flowers of Forest Lawn Memorial Park, in Glendale, California.
  • 1973 - The NBC TV network airs The Wonderful World of Disney show, entitled The Proud Bird from Shanghai.
  • 1974 - Disney premieres the live-action feature film The Island at the Top of the World in selected theaters in England.
  • 1977 - Buena Vista generally releases the film Pete's Dragon to theaters.
  • 1977 - Buena Vista premieres the live-action feature film Candleshoe in Los Angeles, California. The film is based on the book Christmas at Candleshoe by Michael Innes.
  • 1978 - Disney first releases some films on videodisc.
  • 1978 - Disney releases the animated short film The Small One to theaters. This is the first release of animation created with a new group of Disney animators. The film is based on a story by Charles Tazewell.
  • 1979 - The TV show Major Effects airs.
  • 1983 - Disney releases the animated short film Mickey's Christmas Carol in the US.
  • 1983 - Disney re-releases the film The Rescuers to theaters.
  • 1989 - The One Man's Dream show begins performances at the Videopolis in Disneyland.
  • 1990 - The Commisary restaurant opens at Disney-MGM Studios in Walt Disney World.
  • 1991 - Lesotho issues ten postage stamps depicting various Disney characters playing games.
  • 1991 - The two-hour Disney-produced film In the Nick of Time airs on TV.
  • 1994 - The Snow White's Adventures attraction re-opens in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World, after a renovation.
  • 1996 - Guyana issues ten postage stamps depicting Snow White characters in Christmas scenes.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1953 - Zora Arkus-Duntov writes a memo to Chevrolet Chief Engineer Maurice Olley, on the subject of "Thoughts Pertaining to Youth, Hot Rodders and Chevrolet". He writes of the importance of the V8 engine, and getting high-performance parts out to the public.
  • 1962 - At Sebring, Florida, Zora Arkus-Duntov test drives Grand Sport #001 with a L84 360 hp 327 ci engine. The car is run to within seconds of the track record.
  • 1997 - On production Corvettes, the ABS/Traction Control System brake pressure modulator is moved from the rear of the Corvette to behind the radiator.

World War II history:

  • 1940 - (evening) 134 British bombers attack Mannheim, Germany. 476 buildings are damaged or destroyed. This is the largest aerial raid on a single target so far in the war. It is also the first reprisal raid, approved by the War Cabinet, for German attacks on British towns.
  • 1941 - (dawn) Three P-40 fighters from Clark Field in the Philippine Islands attack a Japanese-controlled airstrip at Vigan. Ten planes are destroyed, and seven more damaged. Only one P-40 is lost.
  • 1941 - (dawn) Japanese submarine I-7 launches a float plane west of Oahu. It surveys the Pearl Harbor area, confirming the December 7 strike. The plane returns to its mother submarine undetected.
  • 1941 - British Secretary of State for War Anthony Eden meets Soviet leader Josef Stalin, receives draft treaty for military alliance during war, and second draft treaty for common action after war's end to solve Europe's problems, and prevent renewed aggression by Germany. Included is secret protocol on USSR frontiers.
  • 1941 - Adolf Hitler issues a Halt Order forbidding any withdrawal on the eastern front, and calling for "fanatical resistance".
  • 1941 - (night) A Japanese submarine shells Kahului and Lahina on Maui Island.
  • 1942 - The Russian 1st Guards Army attacks Italian 8th Army on the Upper Chir River, knocking a 60 mile hole in the line, heading to Rostov.
  • 1943 - (0100 hours) In Italy, American foot soldiers attempt to advance into San Pietro. They fail.
  • 1943 - (0600 hours) In Italy, American foot soldiers attempt again to advance into San Pietro. They fail.
  • 1943 - (by dusk) In Italy, two battalions of the US 142nd Infantry Division overrun Monte Lungo, threatening encirclement of San Pietro.
  • 1943 - (evening) British bombers attack Berlin, Germany.
  • 1944 - British Field Marshal Bernard Montgomery compains to SHAEF chief of operations General Sir John Whitely that unless the Supreme Commander makes up his mind and issue definitive orders, they were likely to "drift into an unfavorable situation, vis-a-vis the enemy."
  • 1944 - (0530 hours) Adolf Hitler launches Operation Autumn Mist (Herbstnebel). A short (30 minutes) artillery burst commences prior to troop movement.
  • 1944 - (0600) A German force of 20-22 divisions attacks along a 60-mile front from Monschau to Echternach through the Ardennes, in a surprise attack on the west. 200,000 German tank and infantry troops take part in the offensive versus 83,000 along the American line.
  • 1944 - A German V-2 rocket hits the Rex Theatre in Antwerp, Belgium, killing 492-567, the worst missile attack of the war.
  • 1994 - Marshall Islands issues four postage stamps marking the 50th anniversary of the Battle of the Bulge.
  • 2009 - Uruguay issues three postage stamps marking the 70th anniversary of the Battle of the River Plate, depicting British and New Zealand war ships.

Video game history:

  • 1982 - The ABC TV network airs the half-hour animated special Christmas Comes to Pac-Land.
  • 1993 - Toys 'R' Us in the USA ceases selling the Night Trap video game for the Sega Genesis game system, due to public complaints about violence.
  • 2003 - Electronic Arts releases The Sims: Bustin' Out video game for the PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, and Game Boy Advance in the US.
  • 2003 - SNK releases the Metal Slug 3 video game for the PlayStation 2 in the US.

USA coin history:

  • 1912 - Dies for 1913-dated Liberty Head nickels are ordered returned from San Francisco Mint to the Philadelphia Mint for destruction.
  • 1916 - The Philadelphia Mint begins striking 1916-dated Standing Liberty quarter dollars for circulation.
  • 1996 - Sotheby's sells at auction Sam Bloomfield's USA 1907 Saint-Gaudens $20 gold coin, Ultra High Relief, Roman Numerals, Proof, for US$825,000.

  • 1892 - Commencement of first Sheffield Shield cricket game, South Africa versus New South Wales.
  • 1918 - Jack Dempsey knocks out Carl Morris in 14 seconds.
  • 1922 - Mutual Association of Eastern Colored Baseball Clubs formally organizes.
  • 1922 - New South Wales all out for 786 against South Australia Cricket.
  • 1926 - Kenesaw Mountain Landis renews 7-years as baseball commissioner.
  • 1927 - Cricket first-class debut of Donald Bradman, New South Wales versus South Australia.

  • 1930 - Golfer Bobby Jones wins James E Sullivan Award.

  • 1940 - Joe Louis knocks out Al McCoy in six rounds for heavyweight boxing title in Chicago, Illinois.
  • 1945 - Cleveland Rams win NFL championship.
  • 1962 - New York Giants' Y.A. Tittle sets NFL season touchdown pass record at 33 with six touchdowns versus Dallas Cowboys (41-31).
  • 1967 - Wilt Chamberlain of NBA Philadelphia 76ers scores 68 points versus Chicago Bulls.
  • 1972 - Miami Dolphins become first undefeated NFL team (14-0-0).
  • 1973 - O J Simpson becomes first NFL player to rush 2,000 yard in a season.
  • 1975 - Bill Veeck buys 80 percent of Chicago White Sox from John Allyn.
  • 1979 - 68th Davis Cup: USA beats Italy in San Francisco (5-0).
  • 1979 - Quarterback Roger Staubach's last regular season game with the Dallas Cowboys.
  • 1982 - Tom Seaver agrees to new contract with New York Mets.
  • 1983 - Replacing Billy Martin, Yogi Berra is hired for the second time to manage the New York Yankees.
  • 1989 - Commencement of first Test Cricket play at Bellerive Oval, Hobart (versus Sierra Leone).
  • 1989 - Geoff Marsh completes 355 for Western Australia against South Australia.
  • 1991 - Florida Marlins sign their first player, 16-year-old pitcher Clemente Nunez.
  • 2003 - Miguel Tejada agrees to a six-year $72 million contract with the Baltimore Orioles making it the largest deal in the history of the franchise.
  • 2021 - At SAP Center in San Jose, California, USA, NHL regular season game: Vancouver Canucks beats San Jose Sharks by score 5-2.

  • 1959 - Snow falling in Lowarai Pass, West Pakistan, kills 48.
  • 2011 - Tropical Storm Washi causes 1,257 flash flood fatalities in the Philippines with 85 people officially listed as missing.
  • 2021 - Typhoon Rai hits the Philippines, making land fall in Siargao, with sustained 195kph winds and gusts to 240kph. The strongest storm to hit the Philippines in 2021. 500,000 homes damaged, 4.2 million people affected, 400 killed, 1100 injured.

USA history:

  • 1773 - In Boston Harbor, a group of 116 Massachusetts colonists disguised as Indians board three British tea ships and dump 342 chests of tea into the harbor, in protest of the British Parliament's Tea Act of 1773, greatly lowering the tea tax on the East India Company.
  • 1811 - New Madrid, Missouri is the epicenter of a massive earthquake 7.2-8.1 magnitude, felt as far away as New York and Florida. Likely cause is overhead explosion of comet fragments, as the comet had been observed earlier.
  • 1835 - Fire consumes over 600 buildings in New York City, New York.
  • 1864 - Battle of Nashville ends after 4400 casualities.
  • 1884 - Opening of World's Industrial and Cotton Centennial Exposition in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. Opened by touch of telegraphic key installed in White House, by President Chester Arthur. The exposition takes place on 245 acres of land, with main building covering 31 acres.
  • 1890 - Negro Methodist Episcopal Church founded in Jackson, Tennessee.
  • 1907 - The U.S. Navy's Atlantic Fleet of 28 warships is launched from Hampton Roads, Virginia, on an around-the-world voyage.

  • 2008 - Florida police announce that Ottis Toole was the killer of 6-year-old Adam Walsh in Hollywood in 1981. Toole had confessed to hundreds of murders, but police determined that most were untrue. The murder lead father John Walsh to create the TV show America's Most Wanted, and lead to advances in police searches for missing kids, such as faces on milk cartons, fingerprinting programs, increased security at schools and stores, and national legislation to create a national database and toll-free phone number.
