  • 1992 - A US federal court rules that Advanced Micro Devices does not have the right to use Intel's 486 microcode in its microprocessors.
  • 1996 - Steve Jobs meets with senior Apple Computer managers to convince them that NeXT technology is right for Apple.
  • 1997 - Microsoft releases Internet Explorer 4.01 Update Release.
  • 2001 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. Two computers appear among stolen items; one appears to be an Apple Computer.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1929 - Disney completes the Mickey Mouse film The Haunted House.
  • 1933 - Clarence Nash joins the Disney studio, as employee number 125.
  • 1962 - The NBC TV network airs the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color show, entitled The Mooncussers: Graveyard of Ships, part one.
  • 1965 - Buena Vista releases Disney's live-action feature film That Darn Cat! to theaters. The film is based on the book Undercover Cat by Millie and Gordon Gordon.
  • 1971 - (to December 5) The Walt Disney World Open golf championship is held, at the Magnolia Course.
  • 1984 - 20-year old Margarita Granados gives birth to a baby girl in Disneyland.
  • 1985 - Lesotho issues ten postage stamps depicting Disney characters in Mark Twain quotes or characters from the Brothers Grimm story The Wishing Table.
  • 1988 - Uganda issues ten postage stamps marking the 60th anniversary of Mickey Mouse, in Christmas scenes.
  • 1988 - The Company D cast member store opens at Disneyland.
  • 1988 - Disney acquires KHJ-TV, an independent television station in Los Angeles, for US$320 million.
  • 1988 - Disney releases the film Who Framed Roger Rabbit to theaters in the United Kingdom.
  • 1989 - The Disney Channel airs the Disney Channel Premiere Film Spooner.
  • 1991 - In France, a government labor inspector lodges a formal complaint against Euro Disneyland regarding its strict appearance code in employment contracts.
  • 1992 - Disney reports videotape sales of the film Beauty and the Beast have surpassed 14.2 million units, making it the best selling video ever.
  • 1994 - Disney releases the animated feature film The Lion King to theaters in Finland and Portugal.
  • 1996 - Maldives issues 36 postage stamps depicting scenes from Pluto and the Flypaper, and The Little Whirlwind.
  • 1997 - Buena Vista Home Entertainment releases the film George of the Jungle on videocassette.
  • 2001 - The TV show The Wonderful World of Disney airs, showing Brian's Song.
  • 2001 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US.
    • A character mentions Scrooge McDuck.
    • A couple eating spaghetti share a common noodle, like in the Disney film Lady and the Tramp.

  • 2003 - Touchstone releases the film Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl on DVD for US$29.98 in the US.
  • 2008 - Disney releases The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian on DVD and Blu-Ray in the USA and Canada.

World War II history:

  • 1939 - German pocket-battleship Admiral Graf Spee sinks Doric Star southeast of St. Helena.
  • 1941 - Adolf Hitler issues Directive No. 38, ordering one Air Corps from the Eastern front to South Italy and North African areas. The group is to assist with forces in North Africa, halt enemy shipping in the Mediterranean, and control the skies.
  • 1941 - German Field Marshal Albert Kesselring is appointed Commander-in-Chief Armed Forces South (Mediterranean).
  • 1941 - British battleships Prince of Wales and Repulse arrive at Singapore.
  • 1941 - Japanese Admiral Isoroku Yamamoto issues the coded message "Climb Mount Niitaka 1208" authorizing the Combined Fleet to attack Pearl Harbor, Hawaii, on December 8.
  • 1941 - The Japanese government sends a secret coded message to its ambassadors in Washingto, D.C., and Havana, Cuba, with instructions to burn telegraphic codes, and destroy the code machine.
  • 1942 - Scientists at the University of Chicago in the US induce a nuclear chain reaction, proving an atomic bomb to be possible.
  • 1942 - (evening) A slow Wellington bomber is part of a British raid on Frankfurt, Germany, but not as a bomber. It is designed to be a target of German night-fighter defence attacks, so that Britain can learn more about the Liechtenstein transmission system. The plane is attacked, but makes it back to England with valuable information.
  • 1943 - (0730 hours) Several German JU-88 bombers attack the Italian seaport of Bari. After 20 minutes, four ships have been damaged. One, a gasoline ship, explodes. Then an ammunition ship explodes. Sixteen cargo ships sink, with 1000 men killed. One ship containing a secret cargo of 100 tons of mustard gas in 100-pound bombs sinks. 559 men suffer greatly from the gas poisoning, with a further 69 dying within two weeks.
  • 1943 - (1630 hours) Allied Operation Bluecoat begins in Italy. Over 900 guns open fire on Monte Sammucro. On the left is British X Corps, with objective Camino. On the right is the US II Corps, with objective La Difensa. Over two days, 200,000 shells are fired.
  • 1943 - (evening) Two battalions of the 2nd Regiment of the American/Canadian First Special Service Force begin climbing the north-east face of Monte la Difensa in Italy. Their objective is to clear German positions there and on Mount Remetanea.
  • 1943 - (evening) 458 British bombers attack Berlin, Germany. Little damage is done, due to high winds. 40 planes are shot down.
  • 1943 - (evening) British bombers mount a heavy assault on Leipzig, Germany.
  • 1944 - In Italy, Canadian forces begin an attack to capture Ravenna on the Adriatic sea.
  • 1944 - Charles de Gaulle meets with Josef Stalin in Moscow, over nine days. A military alliance is signed, against Germany now, and after the war.

Video game history:

  • 1982 - Atari signs a long-term agreement with Destron, to market home video game versions of Destron's arcade games.
  • 1992 - The US Federal Trade Commission announces it is closing the case of its two-year investigation of Nintendo, with no further action being warranted.
  • 1994 - A Federal District Court judge in New York upholds the US$208 million patent infringement award against Nintendo, ordering the company to pay Alpex Computer.
  • 1994 - Federal District Court Judge Kimba Wood in New York refuses Nintendo's request for a new trial in the matter of patent infringement against Alpex Computer.
  • 1999 - Sega releases the Shenmue: Chapter 1 Yokosuka video game for the Dreamcast in Japan. Included within the game are Space Harrier and Hang-On video games.
  • 2001 - The Fox Television Network airs the Malcolm in the Middle TV show. A character mentions the Nintendo Entertainment System and Double Dragon 4 video game.
  • 2001 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A bowling alley shows three video arcade machines, including Pong and Nuke Canada.
  • 2002 - Nintendo releases The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past video game for the Game Boy Advance in the US.
  • 2004 - Ubisoft releases the Prince of Persia: Warrior Within video game for the GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox in the US.
  • 2004 - Nintendo releases the Nintendo DS handheld video game system in Japan.
  • 2005 - Microsoft launches the Xbox 360 video game system in Europe.
  • 2006 - Nintendo releases the Nintendo Wii video game system in Japan.
  • 2007 - Activision and Vivendi Games announce a merger, to be called Activision Blizzard. The US$18.9 billion deal is the biggest ever in the videogame industry.
  • 2008 - Square Enix releases the Kingdom Hearts Re:Chain of Memories video game for the PlayStation 2 in the USA.
  • 2008 - Ubisoft releases the Prince of Persia video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the USA.
  • 2014 - Telltale Games releases the Game of Thrones: Episode 1: Iron From Ice video game for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 in the USA.
  • 2014 - Ubisoft releases The Crew video game for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Xbox 360 in the USA.

Swedish history:

  • 1974 - Poland issues a postage stamp depicting King Sigismund Vasa.

  • 1854 - Chief Coiner Franklin Peale is dismissed from Mint service.

  • 2001 - Enron Corporation, based in Houston, Texas, files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in a New York court, five days after Dynegy cancels a US$8.4 billion buyout bid. At the time this is the largest bankruptcy in U.S. history.
  • 2004 - David Bieber, a 38-year-old former American marine, is sentenced to life imprisonment for the murder of a Leeds policeman and the attempted murder of two others following an incident on December 26, 2003. The trial judge recommends that he should never be released from prison.
  • 2005 - In Wentworth, North Carolina, Kenneth Boyd becomes the 1,000th person to be executed in the United States since the re-introduction of capital punishment in 1976.
  • 2007 - Activision and Vivendi Games announce a merger, to be called Activision Blizzard. The US$18.9 billion deal is the biggest ever in the videogame industry.
  • 2008 - US President-elect Barack Obama names New York Senator Hillary Clinton as his nominee for secretary of state, and asks U.S. Defense Secretary Robert Gates to remain in office.
