Personal computer history:

  • 1983 - The COMDEX trade show is held in Las Vegas, Nevada.
  • 1983 - At COMDEX, Radio Shack unveils the Tandy TRS-80 Model 2000 computer. It features an Intel 80186 processor, 80x25 text, 128 kB RAM, two 720 kB disk drives, MS-DOS 2.0, for US$2750. Optional 12-inch monochrome monitor: US$250. Optional monochrome graphics card: US$450. Optional color graphics card: US$750. Optional color monitor: US$800. Optional extra 128 kB RAM: US$300. Optional 10 MB hard drive.
  • 1995 - Microsoft releases Internet Explorer 2.0 Final Release web browser, 32-bit version. It suppoprts secure sockets layer, RSA encryption, inline AVI graphics, background audio, and is available in twelve languages.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1927 - Universal Pictures releases the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit film The Banker's Daughter to theaters.
  • 1947 - The Donald Duck film Chip 'n' Dale is released. Chip and Dale also appear, and are named for the first time.
  • 1958 - The ABC TV network airs the Walt Disney Presents TV show, featuring the third "Elfego Baca" episode, Lawman or Gunman.
  • 1965 - The NBC TV network airs the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color show, featuring The Three Lives of Thomasina, part three.
  • 1971 - The NBC TV network airs The Wonderful World of Disney show, entitled Lefty, the Dingaling Lynx.
  • 1974 - The Star Jets attraction opens in Tomorrowland in the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World.
  • 1975 - The NBC TV network airs Winnie the Pooh and Tigger Too.
  • 1976 - The NBC TV network airs The Wonderful World of Disney show, entitled Disney's Greatest Dog Stars.
  • 1981 - The CBS TV network airs the Walt Disney show, entitled The Cherokee Trail, a pilot for a proposed new series.
  • 1985 - Romania issues eleven postage stamps depicting various Disney characters in classic fairy fales.
  • 1989 - Disney announces it will create a new division for recorded music, tentatively named Hollywood Records.
  • 1991 - The Beauty and the Beast show The Enchanted Book Shoppe begins performing at Plaza Gardens at Disneyland.
  • 1995 - The Walt Disney World Speedway is dedicated at Walt Disney World. The one mile long track was built in a corner of the Magic Kingdom parking lot.
  • 1996 - The Dalmatian Celebration opens in Town Square at Disneyland.
  • 2002 - The ABC TV network premieres the series Dinotopia.
  • 2010 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A cartoon shows a dog in a dream on trial by cats like in Disney's film Pluto's Judgement Day.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1964 - The Nassau Sprint race is held in the Bahamas. Finishing 1st overall is the John Mecom Corvette Grand Sport #003 driven by Roger Penske.
  • 1965 - At the Daytona International Speedway in Florida, the American Road Race of Champions final races of the SCCA Club Racing series are held. Finishing 3rd in B Production class and 6th overall is the Corvette driven by Don Yenko.
  • 1969 - The 1967 L-88 Corvette that was raced to a 1/4-mile class record of 11.04 seconds is displayed at the National Rod and Custom Car Show in Nassau Coliseum.
  • 1976 - In Daytona, Florida, the IMSA Daytona 250 is held.
    • Finishing 6th in GTO class and 6th overall is the Corvette driven by Phil Currin.
    • Finishing 8th in GTO class and 8th overall is the Corvette driven by Babe Headley.
    • Finishing 11th in GTO class and 15th overall is the Corvette driven by John Carusso and Emory Donaldson.
    • Finishing 13th in GTO class and 18th overall is the Corvette driven by Rick Hay.
    • Finishing 19th in GTO class and 30th overall is the Corvette driven by Al Levenson.
    • Finishing 20th in GTO class and 31st overall is the Corvette driven by Bill Schumacher and Bill Rasinen.
    • Placing 22nd in GTO class and 33rd overall is the Corvette driven by Ford Smith.
    • Finishing 23rd in GTO class and 34th overall is the Corvette driven by Bill Arnold.
    • Placing 27th in GTO class and 39th overall is the Corvette driven by Carmen Lista and Bill Bean.
    • Finishing 31st in GTO class and 44th overall is the Corvette driven by Higgins and Ross.
    • Placing 32nd in GTO class and 45th overall is the Corvette driven by Robert E. Davis and Mike Powell.
    • Placing 34th in GTO class and 48th overall is the Corvette driven by Mike Brockman.
    • Placing 39th in GTO class and 54th overall is the Corvette driven by Denny Long.

  • 1976 - At the end of the IMSA race season, Corvette racer Phil Currin is 9th overall.

World War II history:

  • 1939 - The Australian Cabinet approves the dispatch of the 6th Division to the Middle East, after completing basic training. After then receiving further training, the Division would be sent to France to counter an expected German offensive in the spring.
  • 1941 - The US War Cabinet meets, deciding to go to war with Japan if Japan attacks British Malaya, as the Philippines and other US interests would be threatened.
  • 1941 - The Japanese government sends a secret coded message to its ambassadors in Washington, D.C., replying that the US proposed agreement cannot be accepted, but to give the impression of no change in negotiations.
  • 1941 - German submarine U-311 sinks British battleship Barham.
  • 1941 - Quote by Joachim von Ribbentrop to General Oshima, Japanese Ambassador to Berlin: "Should Japan become engaged in a war against the United States, Germany, of course, would join the war immediately.".
  • 1941 - In the Soviet Union, German forces begin withdrawing from Rostov.
  • 1942 - Albert Kesselring arrives in Tunis, and orders the German withdrawal reversed.
  • 1942 - German Field Marshal Erwin Rommel flies to meet with Adolf Hitler in Rastenburg. He suggests a complete withdrawl from North Africa.
  • 1942 - German Field Marshal Erich von Manstein reports to Adolf Hitler with a plan to cut a path to the 6th Army in Stalingrad, resupply it, and get it out.
  • 1942 - The 60th and 64th Troop Carrier Groups drop British paratroops near the airfield at Oudra, in north Africa.
  • 1943 - British General Bernard Montgomery launches an offensive on German defenses of the Sangro line in Italy. The immense air and artillery bombardment forces German 65th Division to withdraw behind the Sangro River to the main line farther back.
  • 1943 - British Prime Minister Winston Churchill, American President Franklin Roosevelt, and Soviet Premier Josef Stalin meet at Teheran, Iran, over four days. Discussions include: European strategy, Far East strategy, Russia and Japan, United Nations, Turkey, Italy, Russian frontiers, Poland, and Germany's eastern frontier.
  • 1944 - The first Allied convoy enters the port of Antwerp since its liberation in September.

Video game history:

  • 1998 - Nintendo releases the Game Boy Color handheld video game system in the US. Price is US$79.95.
  • 2000 - Sony releases the PlayStation 2 video game system in the United Kingdom. Price is 300 pounds.
  • 2001 - Sony CEA releases the PSone LCD Monitor for the PSone video game system in the US. The US$129 screen plugs into the back of the system. The 5-inch wide display has resolution of 320x240, and includes stereo speakers.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1964 - The Grey Cup football game parade includes a float with a replica of the Big Nickel Monument (1951 5c commemorative).

USA coin history:

  • 1979 - (to November 29) Bowers and Ruddy Galleries holds the first auction session of The John Work Garrett Collection in New York. 622 lots sell for $7.1 million. Some highlights:
    • 1787 Brasher doubloon gold pattern, "EB" punch on wing, MS-63, finest known: $725,000;
    • 1783 Nova Constellatio Mark, MS-60: $190,000;
    • 1783 Nova Constellatio Quint (500 cents) pattern, MS-65: $165,000;
    • 1829 half eagle, large planchet, MS-65: $165,000;
    • 1815 half eagle, AU-55: $150,000;
    • 1793 1-cent, chain, "AMERICA", MS-63: $115,000, a record for any copper coin;
    • 1879 $4 gold pattern, coiled hair, Proof: $115,000;
    • 1798 $5 gold, small eagle, EF-40: $110,000.

  • 2008 - The US Mint unveils the design of the first 2009 Native American dollar coin, with the reverse depicting a woman planting seeds, and the obverse depicting the Sacagawea design of Glenna Goodacre.

Sports history:

  • 1895 - America's first auto race starts; six cars, 55 miles, winner averages 7 MPH.
  • 1925 - Famed NHL goalie Georges Vezina collapses in a game.
  • 1929 - Ernie Nevers scores all 40 points for Chicago Cardinals versus Chicago Bears (NFL record).
  • 1958 - George "Punch" Imlach becomes coach of NHL's Toronto Maple Leafs.
  • 1972 - Los Angeles Dodgers trade Frank Robinson to California Angels.
  • 1974 - Major League Baseball commissioner Bowie Kuhn suspends New York Yankees' owner George Steinbrenner for two years for his conviction of making illegal contributions to the Re-elect Nixon campaign.
  • 1981 - Bear Bryant wins his 315th game to out-distance Alonzo Stagg and become college football's winningest coach.
  • 1988 - Rich Gedman becomes the highest paid catcher in the American League when he signs a one-year contract with the Boston Red Sox for US$1.2 million.
  • 1989 - Rickey Henderson signs record US$3 million per year Oakland Athletics contract.
  • 1999 - The Hamilton Tiger-Cats defeat the Calgary Stampeders 32-21 to win the 87th Grey Cup at B.C. Place Stadium in Vancouver.
  • 2005 - Pitcher Billy Wagner agrees to a US$43 million, four-year contract with the New York Mets.
  • 2021 - At Honda Center in Anaheim, California, USA, NHL regular season game: Toronto Maple Leafs beats Anaheim Ducks by score 5-1.
  • 2021 - At United Center in Chicago, Illinois, USA, NHL regular season game: San Jose Sharks beats Chicago Blackhawks by score 2-0.
  • 2021 - At Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey, USA, NHL regular season game: New Jersey Devils beats Philadelphia Flyers by score 5-2.
  • 2021 - At TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, NHL regular season game: Boston Bruins beats Vancouver Canucks by score 3-2.
  • 2021 - At Xcel Energy Center in Saint Paul, Minnesota, USA, NHL regular season game: Minnesota Wild beats Tampa Bay Lightning by score 4-2.
  • 2021 - At PNC Arena in Raleigh, North Carolina, USA, NHL regular season game: Washington Capitals beats Carolina Hurricanes by score 4-2.

Space exploration history:

  • 1964 - Mariner 4 launched; first probe to fly by Mars.
  • 1983 - 9th Space Shuttle Mission - Columbia 6 - is launched.

USA history:

  • 1795 - US pays $800,000 and a frigate as tribute to Algiers and Tunis.
  • 1848 - The USS Lexington departs San Francisco with $500,000 in gold, destined for the Philadelphia Mint.
  • 1853 - Olympia established as capital of Washington Territory.
  • 1861 - Confederate Congress officially admits Missouri to the Confederate States of America.
  • 1871 - Ku Klux Klan trials begin in Federal District Court in South Carolina.
  • 1895 - America's first auto race starts; six cars, 55 miles, winner averages 7 MPH.
  • 1908 - 154 men die in coal mine explosion at Marianna, Pennsylvania, USA.
  • 1922 - Captain Cyril Turner (Royal Air Force) gives first skywriting exhibition (New York City). Turner spells out "Hello USA. Call Vanderbilt 7200." 47,000 called.
  • 1942 - Nearly 500 die in a fire that destroys Coconut Grove nightclub in Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
  • 1953 - Frank Olson, Head of Special Operations Division, CIA, dies on sidewalk outside Hotel Statler in New York City. His death was a CIA assassination on the 13th floor, but is called a suicide.
  • 1954 - In Sylacauga, Alabama, USA a woman is struck by a 4kg meteorite that crashed through the roof of a house.

  • 2018 - The Dow Jones Industrial Average rises 618 points following Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell saying short-term interest rates are just below their natural range.

  • 2005 - The Liberal Party minority government in Canada is toppled by a non-confidence vote in the House of Commons, tabled by the Conservatives and backed by the Bloc Québécois and the New Democratic Party, paving the way for a federal election on January 23, 2006.
  • 2007 - President of Pakistan Pervez Musharraf stands down as the head of the Pakistan Army and is successed by Lt. General Ashfaq Parvez Kayani.
