Personal computer history:

  • 1996 - In Las Vegas, Nevada, the Fall '96 COMDEX trade show is held, over five days. 200,000 people attend.
  • 1996 - At the Comdex show, Intel CEO and President Andrew Grove predicts that by 2011, Intel processors will integrate one billion transistors and operate at 10 GHz and 100,000 MIPS.
  • 1996 - At the Comdex trade show in Las Vegas, Nevada, Microsoft officially launches Windows CE 1.0 for handheld microcomputers. It includes includes a personal information manager, limited versions of Word and Excel, and an email client.
  • 1997 - Cyrix shareholders approve a merger with National Semiconductor. Total value of the deal is US$550 million.
  • 1998 - U.S. District judge Ronald Whyte grants Sun Microsystems' request for a preliminary injunction against Microsoft, requiring Microsoft to cease labeling its products that contain Java technology as being the "official" Java implementation.
  • 2002 - At the Comdex trade show, Dell Computer announces the Dell Axim X5 handheld computer. It features 300 MHz Intel XScale processor, 32 MB SDRAM, CompactFlash type II slot, Secure Digital and MMC slot, 65,536-color transreflective TFT display, speaker, microphone, Pocket PC 2002 operating system. The rechargeable battery powers the unit for about 8 hours. Weight is 6.9 ounces; size is 5 x 3.2 x 0.7 inches; price is US$249. A model with 400 MHz processor and 64 MB RAM costs US$349.
  • 2003 - Apple Computer releases new Power Mac G5 computers. They feature single 1.66 GHz to dual 2 GHz G5 processors, 80 or 160 GB hard drive.
  • 2004 - Apple Computer holds the MacExpo 2004 trade show in London, England, over three days. 25,000 people attend.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1928 - The Colony Theater in New York debuts the Mickey Mouse film Steamboat Willie, prior to the main feature Gang War. This is the sound debut of Mickey Mouse, with Minnie Mouse (unnamed) as co-star. The music of "Turkey in the Straw" is used. The film uses Pat Powers' Cinephone system, which was illegally copied from RCA's sound recording equipment. The film is shown every night for two weeks, with Walt Disney attending every showing.
  • 1929 - Walt Disney sends the first six specimens for a Mickey Mouse comic strip to King Features.
  • 1932 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Honorable Mention Oscar award to Walt Disney Productions for "Distinctive Achievement", the creation of Mickey Mouse.
  • 1932 - The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards an Oscar (Short Subjects, Cartoons) to Disney for the film Flowers and Trees. This is the first Academy Award for a cartoon.
  • 1932 - The animated film collage Parade of the Award Nominees is released to theaters.
  • 1962 - The Swiss Family Treehouse attraction opens in Adventureland at Disneyland. The opening ceremony is hosted by Walt Disney, with Hayley Mills, John Mills, Kevin Corcoran. The sixty foot tall artificial tree has 300,000 bright red vinyl leaves.
  • 1962 - The NBC TV network airs the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color show, featuring The Magnificent Rebel, part one.
  • 1978 - A commemorative plaque is installed at the Broadway Theater (formerly Colony Theater) in New York, marking the 50th anniversary of the premiere of the film Steamboat Willie.
  • 1978 - The Museum of Modern Art in New York City holds a birthday party for Mickey Mouse, showing Steamboat Mickey at noon, fifty years after its first public showing.
  • 1983 - The Hilton Hotel opens on Lake Buena Vista at Walt Disney World.
  • 1987 - Sears, Roebuck & Company agrees to a ten-year alliance to market products based on Disney characters.
  • 1988 - Buena Vista Pictures releases the Walt Disney Pictures animated feature film Oliver & Company to theaters. It cost US$18 million to make.
  • 1990 - The Party Gras Parade makes its last run at Disneyland.
  • 1990 - The NBC TV network airs the Disney TV movie Polly - Comin' Home.
  • 1991 - St. Vincent issues 16 postage stamps depicting scenes from The Prince and the Pauper.
  • 1991 - St. Vincent issues 16 postage stamps depicting scenes from The Rescuers Down Under.
  • 1991 - The Grenadines of St. Vincent issues ten postage stamps depicting Walt Disney Company Christmas cards.
  • 1992 - Mickey's Car of the 'EAR is created in Tokyo Disneyland.
  • 1993 - An Audio-Animatronic robot of President Bill Clinton first performs in the Hall of Presidents show at Walt Disney World.
  • 1993 - The bronze statue Partners of Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse is installed at the Plaza Hub at Disneyland.
  • 1994 - Disney releases the animated feature film The Lion King to theaters in Denmark and Sweden.
  • 1994 - Disney re-releases the animated feature film The Lion King to theaters in the USA.
  • 1994 - Disney re-releases the film The Lion King to theaters in the US.
  • 1995 - Disney releases the film Mickey's Christmas Carol on laserdisc in Japan, for 3900 Yen. It also includes the film The Small One.
  • 1995 - Disney releases the film Prince and the Pauper on laserdisc in Japan, for 3900 Yen. It also includes the film The Legend of Sleepy Hollow.
  • 1995 - At Celebration, Florida, a lottery amoung about 5000 people is held to determine who would have the chance to buy the first 474 houses and apartments in the new city.
  • 1996 - Disney premieres the live-action feature film 101 Dalmatians in New York City.
  • 1997 - Buena Vista Home Entertainment releases the film Prefontaine on videocassette.
  • 1999 - Activision releases the Toy Story 2 video game for the PlayStation and Nintendo 64 in the US.
  • 2001 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US.
    • A bartender says "I am sick of you drunks and your shaggy dog stories."; a patron tells the dog next to him "Sorry Shaggy". These are references to Disney's The Shaggy Dog film and sequels.
    • Four people dance on a bar counter, a reference to a similar scene in Disney's film Coyote Ugly.

  • 2003 - Seventy-five plaster Mickey Mouse statues go on display in Walt Disney World. The art show is entitled Celebrate Mickey: 75 Inspearations. The statues were created by celebrity artists, to honor the 75th anniversary of the film debut of Mickey Mouse.
  • 2005 - The Club Cool attraction opens in Innoventions in Epcot in Walt Disney World.
  • 2008 - Disney releases the Pixar animated film WALL-E on DVD in the USA and Canada.
  • 2008 - Disney releases the Pixar animated short BURN-E on the WALL-E DVD.
  • 2012 - Disney Interactive releases the Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion video game for the Nintendo 3DS in the USA.
  • 2012 - Disney Interactive releases the Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two video game for the Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 in the USA.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1952 - A prototype fiberglass-bodied Chevrolet full-sized convertible is accidentally rolled during a test run at the GM Proving Ground near Milford, Michigan. The body survives with only minor damage, impressing engineers with the strength and durability of fiberglass.
  • 2000 - In Chicago, Illinois, the Chevy / Vettefest Fall 2000 show is held, over two days. Many significant race Corvettes from 1962 to date are displayed.

World War II history:

  • 1939 - German forces begin deploying new magnetic mines in the ocean.
  • 1939 - (morning) A German mine sinks Dutch liner Simon Bolivar off the east coast of Britain.
  • 1941 - British forces in North Africa launch Operation Crusader, a major effort to take Libya.
  • 1943 - (evening) 395 British bombers attack Mannheim and Ludwigshafen, Germany, as a diversion from the main attack on Berlin.
  • 1943 - 444 British heavy bombers attack Berlin, Germany, in the first attack of the Battle of Berlin. Nine British planes are lost. Little damage is done, mainly due to much cloud cover.
  • 1991 - St. Vincent issues a postage stamp marking the 50th anniversary of the fall of Kiev, Ukraine.
  • 1991 - St. Vincent issues fifteen postage stamps depicting American heroes of Pearl Harbor.
  • 1991 - The Grenadines of St. Vincent issues ten postage stamps marking the 50th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.
  • 1991 - The Grenadines of St. Vincent: Bequia issues three postage stamps marking the 50th anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Video game history:

  • 1993 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. One scene takes place in a video game arcade.
  • 1994 - In San Diego, California, Nintendo holds the Nintendo PowerFest World Championships 1994 video game competition, over three days. Michael Iarossi of New Jersey wins the grand prize of US$5000 and a new Ford Mustang car.
  • 1997 - Sega releases the Sonic R video game for the Sega Saturn in the US.
  • 2001 - Nintendo releases the GameCube video game system in the US. It features four controller ports, one controller, 485 MHz IBM Gekko main processor, 162 MHz ATI Technologies "Flipper" graphics processor, 40 MB RAM, DVD-based proprietary disc drive. Games come on 3-inch optical discs holding up to 1.5 GB. Price is US$199.95.
  • 2001 - Nintendo releases the Luigi's Mansion video game for the GameCube in the US.
  • 2001 - LucasArts releases the Star Wars Rogue Squadron II: Rogue Leader video game for the GameCube in the US.
  • 2001 - Electronic Arts releases the Madden NFL 2002 video game for the GameCube in the US.
  • 2001 - Electronic Arts releases the SSX Tricky video game for the GameCube in the US.
  • 2001 - Nintendo releases the Wario Land 4 video game for the Game Boy Advance in the US.
  • 2002 - Nintendo releases the Metroid Prime video game for the GameCube in the US.
  • 2002 - Nintendo releases the Metroid Fusion video game for the Game Boy Advance in the US.
  • 2003 - Ubi Soft releases the Beyond Good & Evil video game for the GameCube, PlayStation 2, and Xbox in the US.

  • 2008 - Sega releases the Sonic Unleashed video game for the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Nintendo Wii in the US.
  • 2008 - Eidos releases the Tomb Raider Underworld video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the USA.
  • 2011 - Activision releases the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the US.
  • 2012 - Disney Interactive releases the Epic Mickey: Power of Illusion video game for the Nintendo 3DS in the USA.
  • 2012 - Nintendo launches the Nintendo Wii U video game system in the USA. The system includes four USB 2.0 ports, built-in WiFi, 1080p HDMI port, GamePad with 6.2-inch screen, 8GB memory. Price for the Basic version is US$299.99. The Deluxe version comes with 32GB memory and Nintendo Land game, for US$349.99.
  • 2012 - Nintendo releases the Nintendo Land video game for the Nintendo Wii U in the USA.
  • 2012 - Nintendo releases the New Super Mario Bros. U video game for the Nintendo Wii U in the USA.
  • 2012 - Disney Interactive releases the Epic Mickey 2: The Power of Two video game for the Nintendo Wii U, Nintendo Wii, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 in the USA.
  • 2014 - Ubisoft releases the Far Cry 4 video game for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 in the USA.

  • 2016 - Nintendo releases the Pokémon Sun & Moon video game for the Nintendo 3DS in the USA.

Swedish history:

  • 1631 - Frankfort surrenders to King Gustav Adolf's army.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1986 - The Royal Canadian Mint officially reopens its newly renovated head office and plant on Sussex Drive in Ottawa.
  • 1992 - A Royal proclamation specifies that the design of a 1992 25c nickel coin and 25c silver coin have "1867-1992" on obverse, and "British Columbia" on the reverse.

USA coin history:

  • 1999 - A first strike ceremony is held at the Philadelphia Mint for the Sacagawea dollar coin, and production begins for circulation.
  • 2008 - (to November 19) Stack's conducts a coin sale in Baltimore. Some highlights:
    • 1808 Capped Draped Bust gold $2.50, MS-63 PCGS: US$517,500.

  • 2010 - The US Mint releases the Abraham Lincoln Presidential dollar coin to circulation.

Sports history:

  • 1949 - Jackie Robinson of the Brooklyn Dodgers is named National League's Most Valuable Player.
  • 1954 - New York Yankees trade Woodling, Byrd, McDonald, Triandos, Miranada and Smith to Baltimore Orioles for Turley, Larsen and Hunter as part of an 18-player deal.
  • 1966 - Brooklyn Dodgers' pitcher Sandy Koufax shocks the baseball world by announcing his retirement at the age of 30, citing his arthritic arm and the fear of permanent damage as the reason.
  • 1975 - Calvin Murphy (Houston Rockets) ends NBA free throw streak 58 games.
  • 1976 - New York Yankees sign free agent Don Gullett.
  • 1984 - New Jersey Devils shutout New York Rangers 6-0.
  • 1984 - Philadelphia Flyers' Ron Sutter fails on 11th penalty shot against New York Islanders.
  • 1985 - Pitchers 20-year-old Dwight Gooden (New York Mets - National League) and 21-year-old Bret Saberhagen (Kansas City Royals - American League) win the Cy Young Award, the youngest players in their respective leagues to win the pitching honor.
  • 1990 - NFL New York Giants beat Detroit Lions 20-0, to run 1990 record to 10-0.
  • 2008 - Pitcher Ryan Dempster agrees to a four-year contract worth US$52 million to remain with the Chicago Cubs.
  • 2021 - At Honda Center in Anaheim, California, USA, NHL regular season game: Carolina Hurricanes beats Anaheim Ducks by score 2-1.
  • 2021 - At T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA, NHL regular season game: Vegas Golden Knights beats Detroit Red Wings by score 5-2.
  • 2021 - At Gila River Arena in Glendale, Arizona, USA, NHL regular season game: Columbus Blue Jackets beats Arizona Coyotes by score 5-4.

  • 1872 - Susan B. Anthony is arrested for voting in the US presidential election.
  • 1874 - National Woman's Christian Temperance Union organizes in Cleveland, Ohio.
  • 1883 - Standard time zones established by railroads in US and Canada.
  • 1894 - First newspaper Sunday color comic section published (New York World).
  • 1909 - US invades Nicaragua.
  • 1913 - Lincoln Deachey performs first US airplane loop-the-loop (San Diego, California, USA).

US Congressman Leo J. Ryan and four others are assassinated by gunfire by members of People's Temple shortly beforehand.

  • 1991 - Shiite Muslim kidnappers in Lebanon set Anglican Church envoy Terry Waite free, after four years of captivity. American educator Thomas M. Sutherland is also released.
  • 1999 - In College Station, Texas, 12 are killed and 28 injured at Texas A&M University when the annual Aggie Bonfire collapses while under construction.
  • 2008 - Heads of automakers General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler appear before a Senate banking committee to ask for financial assistance.
  • 2021 - Muhammad Aziz and Khalil Islam are exonorated in their conviction for the assassination of Malcolm X in 1965.
