Personal computer history:

  • 1984 - The Comdex show is held in Las Vegas, Nevada, over three days.
  • 1984 - At the Comdex show, Sperry introduces the Sperry 5000 series of four microcomputers, running the Unix operating system. Prices range from US$15,000 to US$150,000.
  • 1984 - At the Comdex show, Kaypro introduces its first IBM PC compatible, the Kaypro 16. It features 256 kB RAM, floppy drive, and hard drive. Weight is 35 pounds; price is US$3295.
  • 1984 - At the Comdex show, Texas Instruments intrduces the TI Pro-Lite computer, with 25-line LCD screen. Price is US$2995.
  • 1984 - At the Comdex show, Ashton-Tate announces revised versions of dBase II and Framework.
  • 1985 - India issues a 50-paise postage stamp for Children's Day, depicting a girl at a home computer.
  • 1988 - In Las Vegas, Nevada, the Fall COMDEX trade show is held, over five days.
  • 1994 - New Caledonia issues a 95-franc postage stamp marking the 50th anniversary of ORSTOM, depicting a personal computer.
  • 1995 - IBM, Apple Computer, and Motorola release the PowerPC Platform specifications, called the Common Hardware Reference Platform (CHRP). It encompasses support for Macintosh System 7, Windows NT, AIX, Solaris, NetWare, and OS/2. Windows 3.x and Windows 95 are excluded.
  • 1997 - The ANSI X3J16 and ISO WG21 C++ committee approves the latest C++ language draft, and submits it for official sanction.
  • 1997 - Intel releases a software work-around for operating systems to avoid hanging when encountering the "F0" bug. The bug affects Pentium processors with and without MMX.
  • 1999 - The Fall COMDEX '99 trade show is held in Las Vegas, Nevada, over five days. Bill Gates gives a keynote address. 3126 exhibitors and 417,000 visitors attend.
  • 2000 - Netscape releases the Netscape 6 Internet communications software package. It includes Netscape Navigator, Netscape Mail, Netscape Composer, RealPlayer 8, Net2Phone, and Netscape IM. The package is a free download from the Netscape web site.
  • 2002 - Intel launches the 3.06 GHz Pentium 4 processor. It features Hyper-Threading technology, and 133 MHz system bus. The processor is manufactured in a 0.13-micron process. Price is US$637 each in quantities of 1000.
  • 2002 - Advanced Micro Devices releases the Athlon XP 2700+ processor, with 333 MHz front-side bus. Price is US$349 each in quantities of 1000.
  • 2002 - Advanced Micro Devices releases the Athlon XP 2800+ processor, with 333 MHz front-side bus. Price is US$397 each in quantities of 1000.
  • 2005 - Access of Japan completes its acquisition of PalmSource, for US$324.3 million.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1927 - Universal Pictures releases the Oswald the Lucky Rabbit film The Ocean Hop to theaters.
  • 1936 - The Mickey Mouse film Mother Pluto is released to theaters. Pluto stars, without Mickey.
  • 1941 - The Goofy film The Art of Skiing is released to theaters.
  • 1947 - The Pluto film Mail Dog is released.
  • 1956 - The ABC TV network airs the Disneyland TV show, entitled Along the Oregon Trail. This is a behind the scenes look at the filming of the film Westward Ho the Wagons.
  • 1958 - The ABC TV network airs the Walt Disney Presents TV show, featuring the second "Tales of Texas John Slaughter" episode, Ambush at Laredo.
  • 1962 - Disney world premieres the film In Search of the Castaways in theaters in London, England.
  • 1965 - The NBC TV network airs the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color show, featuring The Three Lives of Thomasina, part one.
  • 1981 - The CBS TV network airs the Walt Disney show, entitled A Disney Storybook part one. It features the films Mickey and the Beanstalk, Dumbo, and Working for Peanuts.
  • 1983 - Anguilla issues ten postage stamps depicting various Disney characters.
  • 1984 - The Disney Channel begins airing the series Still the Beaver. The first episode is entitled Growing Pains.
  • 1986 - Belize issues ten postage stamps depicting various Disney characters.
  • 1997 - The New Amsterdam theater box office sets a record by selling US$2.5 million of advance tickets to The Lion King.
  • 1998 - The computer-animated feature film A Bug's Life premieres in El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, California.
  • 1998 - The Soundstage Restaurant at the Disney-MGM Studios closes.
  • 2000 - Buena Vista Home Entertainment releases the film Fantasia/2000 on videocassette and DVD in the US.
  • 2000 - Disney releases the film Fantasia on DVD.
  • 2000 - Disney releases The Fantasia Anthology on DVD, including the films Fantasia and Fantasia/2000.

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 2020 - At the Sebring International Raceway in Sebring, Florida, USA, the 68th Annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring race is held, round 11 of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship series.
    • Finishing 5th in GT Le Mans class and 16th overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C8.R driven by Jordan Taylor, Nicky Catsburg, and Antonio Garcia.
    • Finishing 6th in GT Le Mans class and 26th overall is the Corvette Racing #4 Corvette C8.R driven by Tommy Milner, Marcel Fassler, and Oliver Gavin.

World War II history:

  • 1940 - (evening) German air forces make a 449-bomber heavy air raid on Coventry, England. 554 people killed, Coventry Cathedral destroyed.
  • 1941 - (0613 hours) British carrier Ark Royal rolls over, and sinks.
  • 1974 - The USSR issues a postage stamp marking the 30th anniversary of the liberation of Estonia.

Video game history:

  • 1979 - At Atari, Jed Margolin proposes Warp Speed, a 3D perspective graphics first-person space war game played against either a person at a linked machine, or a computer-controlled enemy player. The proposal is approved.
  • 1994 - In Tokyo, Japan, Nintendo hosts the annual Shoshinkai Show. Nintendo announces the Virtual Boy video game system, which uses a special virtual reality headset to display 3-D red images on a black background. It features 32-bit RISC chip, two high-resolution mirror-scanning LED displays, stereo speakers, controller with dual directional controls and buttons. The system uses six AA batteries, giving about seven hours of play time. The unit is to be available in the US in April, for about US$200.
  • 1996 - Sega releases the Sonic Blast video game for the Game Gear in the US.
  • 1999 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A child plays a home videogame system showing three ninjas.
  • 2000 - Sega releases the Sonic Shuffle video game for the Dreamcast in the US.
  • 2000 - Square EA releases the Final Fantasy IX video game for the PlayStation in the US.
  • 2002 - Microsoft officially launches the Xbox Live online gaming service in the US, and releases the Xbox Live Starter Kit in the US. Price is US$49.99, including a one-year subscription to Xbox Live. The service requires a broadband Internet connection.
  • 2005 - 2K Sports releases the NBA 2K6 video game for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in the US.
  • 2005 - EA Sports releases the NCAA March Madness 06 video game for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in the US.
  • 2005 - EA Sports BIG releases the SSX On Tour video game for the PlayStation Portable, PlayStation 2, Xbox, and GameCube in the US.
  • 2005 - Nintendo releases the Mario Kart DS video game for the Nintendo DS in the US.
  • 2005 - Sony CEA releases the NBA 06 video game for the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable in the US.
  • 2005 - McDonald's and Nintendo launch a free Wi-Fi service for Nintendo DS users in thousands of McDonald's restaurants in the US. The service is provided by Wayport, and paid for by Nintendo.
  • 2006 - THQ releases the WWE Smackdown vs RAW 2007 video game for the PlayStation 2 and Xbox 360 in the USA.
  • 2006 - Capcom releases the Capcom Classics Collection Vol. 2 video game for the PlayStation 2 in the USA. Price is US$19.99. Included are 20 games: Super Street Fighter II Turbo, 1941, Strider, Knights of the Round, Quizard Dragons.
  • 2006 - Square Enix releases the Final Fantasy III video game for the Nintendo DS in the USA.
  • 2006 - Midway releases the Mortal Kombat Deception: Unchained video game for the PlayStation Portable in the US.
  • 2010 - Nintendo releases the Mario vs. Donkey Kong: Mini-Land Mayhem video game for the Nintendo DS in the US.
  • 2012 - Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment releases the Lego The Lord of the Rings video game for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in the USA.

Swedish history:

  • 1632 - Axel Oxenstierna sends a draft of the Form of Government proposal to Sweden.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1973 - In the minting facility of the Royal Canadian Mint in Hull, Quebec, Postmaster General André Ouellet strikes the first $5 coin for the 1976 Olympic Coin Program.
  • 1980 - In Montreal, Quebec, the Quebex coin show is held, over three days. An 1875 3-coin specimen set sells at auction for $43,000.
  • 1986 - The Royal Canadian Mint informs the RCMP of the missing dollar coin dies. The RCMP begins an investigation into their disappearance.
  • 2003 - In Oakville, Ontario, The International Coin Fair is held, over three days. Moore Numismatic Auctions conductions the single-session auction. Some highlights:
    • 5 cents 1936 PCGS MS-66: $5,635;
    • 50 cents 1900 PCGS MS-64: $35,500;
    • $1 1936 PCGS SP-65: $8,625.

USA coin history:

  • 2007 - Legend Numismatics sells a collection of over 1000 US pattern coins for over $30 million in a private transaction, double the previous record for a private transaction of coins.
  • 2011 - The US Mint releases the 2011 Chickasaw National Recreation Area quarter dollar to circulation.

Sports history:

  • 1888 - Saint Andrews Golf Club, in Yonkers, New York, opens with just six holes.
  • 1914 - Billy Mallett of Hamilton Tigers football team kicks ten singles in a game.
  • 1920 - American Pro Football Association's Chicago Tigers' Joe Guyon punts 95 yards.
  • 1943 - Chicago Bears' Sid Luckman passes for 7 touchdowns versus New York Giants (56-7).
  • 1970 - Marshall University football team wiped out in air crash at Kenova West, Virginia.
  • 1986 - Nelson Doubleday and Fred Wilpon buy the World Champion Mets from the Doubleday Publishing Company for US$80.75 million.
  • 2006 - The BBWAA votes Brandon Webb of the Arizona Diamondbacks as winner of the National League Cy Young Award.

  • 2021 - At Honda Center in Anaheim, California, USA, NHL regular season game: Anaheim Ducks beats Vancouver Canucks by score 5-1.
  • 2021 - At Enterprise Center in Saint Louis, Missouri, USA, NHL regular season game: Edmonton Oilers beats Saint Louis Blues by score 5-4.
  • 2021 - At Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., USA, NHL regular season game: Washington Capitals beats Pittsburgh Penguins by score 6-1.
  • 2021 - At Madison Square Garden in New York, New York, USA, NHL regular season game: New York Rangers beats New Jersey Devils by score 4-3.
  • 2021 - At TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts, USA, NHL regular season game: Boston Bruins beats Montreal Canadiens by score 5-2.
  • 2021 - At Canadian Tire Centre in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, NHL regular season game: Calgary Flames beats Ottawa Senators by score 4-0.

Space exploration history:

  • 2019 - Italy declares a state of emergency in Venice following record flooding.

USA history:

  • 1832 - First streetcar (horse-drawn, operated by John Mason) debuts in New York City; fare 12 cents, running on 4th Avenue between Prince and 14th Streets.
  • 1863 - Bedford Forrest is assigned to command of West Tennessee.
  • 1863 - Skirmish at Danville, Mississippi.
  • 1881 - Charles J Guiteau goes on trial for US President James Garfield's assassination.
  • 1881 - Charles J. Folger takes office as US Treasury Secretary.
  • 1889 - Journalist for New York World Nellie Bly (AKA Elizabeth Jane Cochrane) begins world circumnavigation trip from New York City.
  • 1896 - Power plant at Niagara Falls begins operation.
  • 1906 - US President Theodore Roosevelt becomes first US President to visit a foreign country (Panama) while in office, to see work on the Panama Canal.

  • 1935 - US President Franklin Roosevelt proclaims the Philippine Islands a free commonwealth.
