Personal computer history:

  • 1988 - The AmiExpo trade show is held in Los Angeles, California, over three days.
  • 1991 - Mediagenic files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
  • 1997 - Sun Microsystems takes legal action against Microsoft for shipping Internet Explorer 4.0 with a non-standard implementation of the Java programming language. Sun files a breach of contract lawsuit in U.S. District Court in San Jose, California.
  • 2002 - Palm announces its first Zire handheld computer. It features 16 MHz Motorola Dragonball EZ processor, 2 MB RAM, 2 MB ROM, Palm OS 4.1, 160x160 pixel monochrome 1.9-inch LCD screen, rechargeable battery. Price is US$99; weight is 3.6 ounces.
  • 2008 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A personal computer keyboard appears. A laptop computer is used to track the movement of someone.

Walt Disney Company history:

  • 1962 - The NBC TV network airs the Walt Disney's Wonderful World of Color show, featuring Escapade in Florence, part two.
  • 1971 - Buena Vista premieres the animated and live-action feature film Bedknobs and Broomsticks in London, England. The film cost almost US$20 million to make.
  • 1973 - The NBC TV network airs The Wonderful World of Disney show, featuring Mustang! part one.
  • 1980 - Grenada Grenadines issues ten postage stamps depicting scenes from Bambi.
  • 1981 - Disney releases the live-action feature film The Watcher in the Woods to theaters in the US. The film is based on the novel A Watcher in the Woods by Florence Engel Randall.
  • 1984 - The Disney Channel airs the Disney Channel Premiere Film Love Leads the Way.
  • 1985 - The Disney Channel begins airing the TV series Danger Bay.
  • 1990 - The first American Teacher Awards show is held at the Pantages Theatre in Hollywood. The awards show was created by Disney for broadcast on the Disney Channel.
  • 1991 - The ABC TV network begins exclusive airing of Disney's Live with Regis and Kathie Lee.
  • 1993 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Simpsons TV show in the US. A movie theater lists Ernest Goes Somewhere Cheap as now playing. The title is a parody of the Ernest films.
  • 1994 - Buena Vista Pictures generally releases the film Ed Wood to theaters.
  • 1994 - Buena Vista International releases the animated feature film The Lion King to theaters in the United Kingdom.
  • 1998 - The Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin attraction opens in the Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World.
  • 2002 - The A Bug's Land area opens in Disney California Adventure. The attractions are Flik's Flyers, Tuck & Roll's Drive 'em Buggies, Heimlich's Chew Chew Train, Francis's Ladybug Boogie, and Princess Dot Puddle Park.
  • 2003 - Disney releases The Lion King Special Edition on DVD for US$29.99 in the US.
  • 2005 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Fairly Oddparents TV show in the US.
    • A segment in black and white mimics cartoons of the 1930s, with two characters looking like Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse.
    • A street corner labels the streets "UB" and "IWERKS".

Chevrolet Corvette history:

  • 1953 - John Wayne (Marion Morrison) receives 1953 Corvette #051.
  • 1960 - The CBS television network debuts the Route 66 show on Fridays from 8:30 to 9:30. The show features two young men driving a Horizon Blue 1960 Corvette around the US in search of adventure.
  • 1965 - The Mako Shark II show car debuts at the Paris Auto Show in France.
  • 1984 - At the Riverside International Raceway in Riverside, California, the SCCA Budweiser Trans-Am Championship - Round 14 race is held.
    • Finishing 1st is the DeAtley Budweiser #3 Corvette, driven by Darin Brassfield.
    • Finishing 10th is the Park Performance #79 Corvette, driven by Larry Park.
    • Finishing 11th is the George Follmer Racing #16 Corvette, driven by George Follmer.
    • Finishing 12th is the DeAtley Budweiser #1 Corvette, driven by David Hobbs.
    • Finishing 15th is the Automotive Enterprise #27 Corvette, driven by Rich Sloma.
    • Finishing 22nd is the B.C. Auto Body #41 Corvette, driven by Bill Craine.
    • Finishing 23rd is the Vintage Vettes Racing #83 Corvette, driven by John Seiler.

  • 2001 - At the Road Atlanta raceway in Braselton, Georgia, the Speedvision World Challenge GT - Round 10 race is held.
    • Finishing 7th is the Aggregate Industries / McClure Concrete #73 Corvette C5, driven by Phil McClure.
    • Finishing 10th is the Metric Chemical #35 Corvette C5, driven by David Farmer.
    • Finishing 14th is the Haulmark Trailers #08 Corvette C5, driven by Paul Brown.
    • In 18th place, but not finishing the race, is the Les Stanford Chevrolet / Pirate Racing #75 Corvette ZR1, driven by Bill Cooper.

    • Finishing 2nd in GT Le Mans class and 8th overall is the Corvette Racing #3 Corvette C7.R driven by Jan Magnussen, Mike Rockenfeller, and Antonio Garcia.

World War II history:

  • 1939 - Adolf Hitler appoints SS Chief Heinrich Himmler to take charge of establishing a New Order in Eastern Europe.
  • 1939 - German submarine U-47 leaves German port, destined for the British Royal Navy at Scapa Flow.
  • 1939 - German pocket-battleship Admiral Graf Spee sinks Ashlea east of Ascension Island.
  • 1941 - Soviet forces in Vyazma and Bryansk pockets surrender.
  • 1941 - The first snow falls on the German/Russian front, but soon melts, followed by heavy rains.
  • 1944 - British bombers attack rail facilities of Kleve and Emmerich in Germany.
  • 1944 - British bombers create more openings in the dykes around Walcheren Island, near Flushing and Veere.
  • 1944 - British bombers attack and breach the dam at Kembs, Germany.

Video game history:

  • 2003 - Nokia releases the N-Gage handheld video game system worldwide. It features 104 MHz ARM processor, 64 MB RAM, 176x208 pixel 4096-color display, games console, cell phone, wireless Bluetooth connectivity, USB port, XHTML web browser, MP3 audio player, email support, stereo FM radio, and instant messaging. Games are available on MultiMedia Cards. Price in the USA is US$300.
  • 2003 - Eidos releases the Backyard Wrestling: Don't Try This at Home video game for the Xbox, PlayStation 2, and GameCube in the US.
  • 2003 - EA Sports releases the NBA Live 2004 video game for the Xbox, PlayStation 2, and GameCube in the US.
  • 2003 - Gotham releases the Conflict Desert Storm II: Back to Baghdad video game for the Xbox and PlayStation 2 in the US.
  • 2005 - California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger signs into law Assembly Bill 1179. The Violent Video Game Bill prohibits the sale of violent video games to those under 18.
  • 2005 - The Fox Broadcasting Company airs The Fairly Oddparents TV show in the US. A child tries to get his grandfather to play video games with him.
  • 2008 - Lucasarts releases the Fracture video game for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 2 in the USA and Canada.
  • 2009 - Atlus releases the Demon's Souls video game for the PlayStation 3 in the USA.

Swedish history:

  • 1391 - Birgitta is canonized by the Church of Rome, making her Sweden's first Saint.
  • 1542 - King Gustav offers a safe-conduct pass to Nils Dacke to meet in Stegeborg. It is refused.
  • 1982 - Olof Palme is officially sworn in as prime minister.
  • 1988 - Grenada Grenadines issues a postage stamp depicting a 1967 Volvo P1800.

Canadian coin history:

  • 1989 - CBC TV debuts the Street Cents TV show, focusing on coin collecting, targeting young people.
  • 1992 - The Royal Canadian Mint begins selling 13-coin sets of the year's commemorative 25c coins and a special version of the $1 coin. Issue price is $17.25.
  • 2011 - The Royal Canadian Mint announces a new 8-coin nature and wildlife series of circulating coins, six 25-cent, one $1 and one $2, some with color (green, blue, yellow).
  • 2011 - The Royal Canadian Mint releases the 2011 Parks Canada nickel-bronze aureate $1 coin to circulation, with mintage limit 5 million.

USA coin history:

  • 1891 - American Numismatic Association is founded, with William G. Jerrems as first president.
  • 1936 - The US Mint ships 24,990 Elgin Pioneer half dollars for the Elgin Centennial Monumental Committee to distributor L.W. Hoffecker in El Paso, Texas.
  • 1999 - The 1999 Connecticut quarter dollar is introduced.

Sports history:

  • 1916 - In Lebanon, Tennessee, Georgia Tech defeats Cumberland University 222-0 in the most lopsided victory in American college football.
  • 1927 - New York Yankees' Herb Pennock retires first 22 Pittsburgh Pirates in World Series game (World Series #24).
  • 1933 - New York Giants beat Washington Senators, four games to one in 30th World Series.
  • 1935 - Detroit Tigers beat Chicago Cubs, four games to two in 32nd World Series.
  • 1950 - New York Yankees sweep Philadelphia Phillies in 47th World Series.
  • 1952 - New York Yankees beat Brooklyn Dodgers 4 games to 3 in 49th World Series; New York Yankees tie their own record of four consecutive World Series wins.
  • 1964 - New York Yankees make 14th appearance in last 16 and 29th in 61st World Series.
  • 1965 - 50-mph gust carries 165-pound Robert Mitera's tee shot 447 yards to score the world's longest straight hole-in-one at Miracle Hills in Omaha, Nebraska, USA.
  • 1972 - First season game at Nassau Coliseum, Calgary Flames-3, New York Islanders-2.
  • 1977 - With two outs in top of 9th, Los Angeles Dodgers trailing Philadelphia Phillies 5-3 in playoffs, score three runs and win 6-5. Dodgers hold 2-1 game lead.
  • 1978 - The Los Angeles Dodgers win their second straight National League pennant.
  • 1981 - In first Eastern Division championship New York Yankees beat Milwaukee Brewers 5-3.
  • 1984 - The San Diego Padres win the National League Championship Series against the Chicago Cubs.
  • 1984 - Walter Payton passes Jim Brown as NFL's career rushing leader.
  • 1989 - Rickey Henderson steals a record 8 bases in a play off (5 games).
  • 2017 - At the Road Atlanta raceway in Braselton, Georgia, USA, the Motul Petit Le Mans race is held, round 10 of the IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship series.

  • 2021 - At Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, NHL pre-season game: Edmonton Oilers beats Vancouver Canucks by score 3-2.
