The Riksdaler evolved from earlier units of European currency, the Thaler, and Daler. Through the late 1790s to 1873, the Riksdaler had variants Riksdaler Specie, Riksdaler Riksgald, and Riksdaler Riksmynt. The re-introduction of the Öre in 1855 made fractional Riksdaler coins obsolete. The 1/24 Riksdaler had a short life-span, starting at 3/4 million produced, dropping down to about 100,000 at the end.
