I have taken down the message board temporarily. The spam problem was getting difficult to manage, and it was deleting all valid posts. Life was simpler back in The Summer of '69!

I have left up past messages, in the hope that people will still connect! A new solution will arrive soon.

To all BRATS. To explain this situation. As a result of stringent requirements put in place after the 9/11 New York attacks, those of us who were born overseas are now finding that we are in a status snafu. On reading the letter you will see that the C15, Canadian registration of birth abroad is no longer considered a legal proof of birth for Canada. You will have to apply for a Canadian citizenship card. If you don't apply you will have difficulty in renewing your passport, driver's licence etc. People misunderstand the citizenship card. It has 2 purposes. It is proof of citizenship for landed immigratns and it is a foreign birth certificate for Canadians born abroad. If any of you are in this situation then either email me at christina2031@shaw.ca or phone me at 604 541 9846. I will give you the directions of who to contact for you to apply for your card. I have 2 subjects that need posting. One is about the BRATS citizenship status. Maybe you could send me your phone number and I will phone you. The issue is Brats are having issues with their status due to the C15 birth abroad certificate having been cancelled by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. They have to turn this in and replace it with a Canadian Citizenship card. Mmany misunderstand and think they are applying for Canadian citizenship. The card has a dual purpose. One being proof of citizenship for landed immigrants and the 2nd being a Canadian Foreign birth certificate for Canadian born overseas. Without this you cannot apply for pensions, new passports and driver's licences etc. This all came about because of the 9/11 New York attacks. I am the chairperson working on this and I have a letter of authorization which can be used when you take that C15 and apply for the card. You can go on to www.grostenquin.org and go on the brats message area and you will see many messages around this. One concern I have is that whilst we have found resolution the citizenships dept will not make any public announcement that we are in this scenario and many will not know until the apply for passport renewals and then they will have to wait up to a year to resolve this. The 2nd area that needs posting is an address for International birth certificates from Zweibruken for those who want them. I will copy the letter I received and if they follow the directions then they will be able to apply fro that. My phone number is 604 541 9846. Christine Eden How I wish our government was as quick.
