REUNION NEWS
At last, the long awaited details for the upcoming reunion. Start making
some calls, get your room reserved, make your travel arrangements, let
friends know you’re coming, send in your registration money, and get ready
for a great weekend with old friends.
The venue is:
Coast Plaza Hotel (same hotel we used last time, so some of you are familiar
with it)
1316 - 33 Street N.E.
Calgary, Alberta T2A 6B6
Toll Free: 1-800-661-1464
In Calgary: 248-8888
We have blocked off 125 rooms from Friday, July 30 to Sunday, August 1.
Standard room rates are available at $89.00 per room per night, single or
double occupancy, $15.00 each additional person, plus 5% hotel tax, and 7%
GST.
Superior rooms are available at $104.00 per room per night, single or double
occupancy, plus hotel tax and GST.
Premium suites are available at $250.000 per room per night, single or
double occupancy, plus hotel tax and GST.
Jacuzzi suites are available at $275.00 per room per night, single or double
occupancy, plus hotel tax and GST.
You are required to make your own reservations. They will hold these rooms
at these rates until July 6, 2004. When you make reservations, tell them
you are with the Brat Reunion, so that they will know to give you the rate
of $89.00 for a regular room. You are required to settle your own accounts
with the hotel. If you do not show up for your room, the hotel will charge
you one night’s accommodation, and will cancel the rest of the reservation.
So if you’re going to be late, let them know.
We have a meeting room booked for Friday, July 30, 2004 at the Coast Plaza,
with a cold buffet. On Saturday evening, we have the same room booked for
the dinner, featuring Alberta Prime Rib, and the dance with a DJ hosting.
Both nights will be a Cash Bar, where you purchase tickets. Drinks are
$4.25 for house brand liquor and domestic beer, $4.75 for house white and
red wines, premium liquor and beer, house cocktails, coolers and liqueurs,
and $2.00 for pop and juice. As of this moment, we have nothing booked for
Sunday, but we are working on it. Stay tuned.
The Coast Plaza has a complimentary scheduled shuttle service to and from
the Calgary International Airport.
If we have enough people in attendance on Thursday, July 29, we are again
considering having a Pre-Reunion Warm Up in the lounge of the Coast Plaza,
as we did at the last reunion. There may or may not be live entertainment,
depending on how Pierre feels that night. (Sorry, Pierre, couldn't resist!)
If you want to go to downtown Calgary and see the sights, there is Light
Rail Transit (C-Train) within walking distance of the Coast Plaza Hotel.
Each fare is $2.00 one way, or you can buy a day pass.
If you decide not to stay at the Coast Plaza, I’m enclosing some information
about other hotels in the area. We have no room rates set up with them, so
you will be paying their regular rates. Also, you will need transportation
to the Coast Plaza, as none of them are within walking distance.

The reunion fees are $100.00 per person. This includes the hall rental, the
cold buffet, the dinner, the DJ, and whatever we decide to do on Sunday. If
you've already sent us a deposit, send the remainder per person to cover the
rest. If you haven't sent your deposit, you can send us all or part of the
$100.00 per person, but we do need the entire amount before that weekend.
If you haven't paid all of it by then, you will be required to pay the
remainder at the door. No exceptions.
At a later date, I'll send you www addresses on some of the things to do and
see in and around Calgary, as well as regular updates to the attendee list.
That's it for now. The main thing is to get registered with us. Send us a
cheque for either $100.00 per person or the remainder of the cost, payable
to Lori Duane at the snail mail address on this e-mail.
If you need anything from me, get in touch.

Post One
Happy New Year. Hope you had a good holiday season and are ready for 2004,
the Chinese Year of the Monkey, and the Brat Year of the PARTY!!!!
For those of you who need reminding, and those who are getting this
information for the first time, here’s what it’s all about…..
August long weekend 2004. An intimate party for then-high-school-aged brats
from any and all overseas RCAF bases during the years 1965 to 1970
inclusive. Host city is Calgary. More details will go out as they develop.
Now is the time for you to commit. So far, we only have 9 people registered
(see very small list at the end of this e-mail). We’re starting to look at
booking things now. To do that, we need a commitment from you, and a
deposit from you. The deposit is $25.00 per person. This is refundable to
you up until July 1, 2004. After that, it’s been spent. From now until May
1, 2004, we need at least 150 people registered. If we can’t get that
number, it’s not going to happen. It gets too expensive per person for
anything less than that. So get busy phoning your pals to see who is and
isn't coming, and get registered. A lot of people have shown an interest, a
lot have said they’re coming. But without a $25.00 deposit, you’re not
registered. So get that cheque in the mail and show your interest. We’re
doing this for you.
We don’t know the final cost yet, of course. That depends on the number of
people coming, the venue, the room size we'll need, etc. (This is why it’s
so important for you to register ASAP.) We'll let you know once we get into
the thick of things. Your deposit goes toward the final cost.
In 1987, we had 75 brats at a Lahr reunion. In 1997, we had 280 brats at an
overseas base reunion. All we need at this one, for a good price for all,
is 150 people. We can’t do it without you. Get in touch with me. Let me
know you’re coming. Send your deposit. If you've never been to a reunion
before, take my word for it …. they're a once-in-a-lifetime, unforgettable
blast! Something that must be experienced. Seventy-two hours of not
sleeping!! How fun does that sound?!?!
That’s all for now. Basically, this letter is a push to get you to register
by sending your deposit. We need you.
I'll be in touch. If you need me, I’m at the snail mail address below, or
tadpole@shaw.ca
Until next time,
Lori Duane

Dear Overseas Brat:
Less than one year before our planned party! Gads, how time flies!!
Details (as far as I can give right now) – August long weekend, Calgary
2004.
Come the New Year, I’m going to start asking for deposits for the August
long weekend party. That’s the time we’ll need a head count on how many of
you are serious about showing up. If you already know yay or nay, tell me
now. The sooner we get a count, the sooner we can get a cost out to you.
Again, we’ll try to keep it as low as possible, and still have a good time.
If you feel you want to send a deposit now, we’ll be asking for $25.00.
That goes toward the final cost, whatever that is. Send it to my address at
the top of this letter, made payable to me, Lori Duane (not Macaulay).
Again, if you send a deposit and then can’t come, we’ll refund your deposit
up until one (1) month before the party. After that, there is no refund.
The clock’s ticking. Give it some serious thought. Make your decision,
then let me know what it is. We’ll probably go with the same format as in
the past - casual mingling Friday night, dinner/dance Saturday night, casual
barbeque Sunday. Venue is still pending, of course, depending on the final
head count.
On Friday and Saturday, spouses are very welcome. On Sunday, the whole
family is welcome. We request that there are no minors on Friday and
Saturday nights.
As it is an adult only event on those nights,
it won’t be an environment where you want your younger children to be, nor
where partiers want young children to be, either.
Costs will be as reasonable as possible. We’ll offer break downs for those
people who can only make one night, so everyone can participate one way or
another.
If you know someone who hasn’t gotten this information but should, please
pass this on to them. We’re targeting the RCAF overseas bases, from the mid
1960s to 1970. We want a good turn out, and we don’t want to miss anyone.
If you need anything from me, get in touch.
My name, address and phone number have changed.
Please note, the new
information at the top of this letter.
Don is still at 104 Abadan Crescent
N.E., Calgary, Alberta T2A 6N9, (403) 272-1171 if you need to contact him.
