The Odd Hack Band has played for weddings, barn dances, concerts, festivals, and other celebratory events all over Vancouver Island and Washington State since 1993. Much of their music features original tunes composed by Keith Malcolm, who has been B.C. Old-Time Fiddle Champion on several occasions. The band's first CD, entitled Trip to Pender, has been featured on CBC radio.
In reviewing this CD, Times Colonist music critic Joseph Blake commented: "The music ranges from lively jigs and reels, to jazzy tangos, to romantic airs and old fashioned waltzes. I've been wearing it out at home from repeated plays... Highest recommendation."
Four members of Odd Hack will be performing for the English Country Dance: Brenda Callan (fiddle), Brian Titus (woodwinds), Gregory Brown (woodwinds, guitar and mandolin) and David Gartrell (keyboards). This talented trio has extensive backgrounds in an array of musical genres, including classical, folk, and jazz. Their playing will delight you with all of the moods of English Country Dance music -- from rollicking, lilting jigs to flowing, flirtatious ballads and meditative airs.
