This page allows you to download an update to MatchMaker June 2006 Version 1.20 from September 2001 beta version, September 2003 Version 1.0, or November 2003 Version 1.10. It includes nongilled descriptions, corrections, and some new features.

The update does not have illustrations: you use the illustrations you already have.

There are five main options:

1. Do not update.
   • Advantages:
     • Program will still work without update.
   • Disadvantages
     • Names and descriptions are not updated and corrected.


2. Download of Quiz program only.  Size 0.3Mb.
   (about 2 minutes by 56k modem)
   • Advantages:
     • Quiz program allows you to test your identification of photographs with 2001 version of MatchMaker.
     • Changes you have made to descriptions and data will not be overwritten by additions and corrections.
   • Disadvantages
     • Lacks the program changes mentioned as advantages for Complete Download
     • Names and descriptions are not updated and corrected.


3. Download of text only.  Size 1.6Mb.
   (about 8 minutes by 56k modem)
   • Advantages:
     • Small size suitable for those with modem connection
     • Additions and corrections to gilled names and descriptions
     • You can still download Quiz program separately. (0.3Mb)
   • Disadvantages
     • Lacks the program changes mentioned as first five advantages for Complete Download
     • At present text is only updated to 2003, not 2006.
     • Tree View on the List menu will not work.
     • Some new literature references will not be listed in the old Help file.
     • The names of nongilled illustrations will not be updated.
     • Changes you have made to descriptions and data will be overwritten. (Contact Ian Gibson is this is an issue.)


4. Complete download of Version 1.20.  Size 11Mb
   (about 65 minutes by 56k modem, 45 seconds by cable)
   • Advantages:
     • Nongilled descriptions are included
     • Quiz program to test your identification of photographs, accessible from Quiz menu item in MatchMaker
     • Colored description headings such as CAP, colored main name of species
     • Search within each description with Ctrl-F.
     • Work with common species only, if desired.
     • Index of all species names and alternate names
     • Some minor bug fixes
     • Additions and corrections to all names and descriptions
   • Disadvantages:
     • Size means it is easy to download only for those with high speed connections.
     • Changes you have made to descriptions and data will be overwritten. (Contact Ian Gibson is this is an issue.)


5. Complete New CD: This option will be available on request to the photographers, the Pacific Key Council members, and to anyone who cannot make the above choices work. The workload would be unmanageable if everybody requested a completely new CD.

If you download Version 1.20:

1. Double click on the file update12.exe in the folder where you have downloaded the file. This will extract the setup.exe file, several .cab files, setup.lst, WhatsNew.txt, and readme.txt.
2. Uninstall the old MatchMaker version. In Windows 98 or Windows XP you do this by Start -> Settings -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove New Programs -> MatchMaker, and you will be given the option to uninstall. A notice will say that it was unable to remove the folder completely. This is because it will still contain the update illustrations. Do not remove them.
3. Double click on the setup.exe file mentioned above (in C:\Program Files\MatchMaker_Setup_04\), and follow screen directions to install MatchMaker.
4. Go to the new C:\Program Files\MatchMaker\ folder and double click NameChanges.exe.
5. Load the MatchMaker program and click Refresh All Illustrations on the Advanced menu.

If you download the text only:

1. Double click on the file updateTx.exe in the folder where you have downloaded the file. (This will extract files acorigin.txt, ccorigin.txt, chorigin.txt, ilorigin.txt, mporigin.txt, pqorigin.txt, rzorigin.txt, rangorig.dta, dataorig.dta, name_changes.txt, and NameChanges.exe to the C:\Program Files\MatchMaker\ folder.) Do not uninstall MatchMaker.
2. Double click on the NameChanges.exe file in the C:\Program Files\MatchMaker\ folder.
3. Load the MatchMaker program and click Restore All Original Species on the Advanced menu. The program will work fine the next time you load it (with the exception of Tree View).

If you download the Quiz program only:

1. Double click on the file quizz.exe in the folder where you have downloaded the file. (This will extract the Quiz files - names all starting with quiz .. - to the C:\Program Files\MatchMaker\ folder.) Do not uninstall MatchMaker.
2. Double click on the file quiz.exe in that folder to start the program.
