Island
Catholic News Vision Statement
Focus and
mandate of Island Catholic News
- News and information for
Catholic, Ecumenical and Inter-faith communities
on Vancouver Island. Special concern with sharing
news, views and Signs of Hope among
people of faith on the Island.
- Broad social concern agenda
including faith, justice, spiritual, ethical and
poverty issues, striving to give a voice to those
who are marginalized. We also feature a
multi-cultural focus on international
development, refugees and the arts.
- Island Catholic News
is the only independent Catholic monthly in
British Columbia (there are very few independent
religious monthlies in Canada, that are not
controlled by a diocese or religious order).
Editorial
Bias
- The editorial content of
ICN has been greatly influenced by the prophetic
catholicism of the Catholic Worker Movement and
its founders Dorothy Day and Peter Maurin, and
the leadership of Bishop Remi De Roo.
- We are most inspired by the
Gospel imperative of a Preferential Option
for the Poor, which is also substantiated
in Catholic church teaching.

Columbus.
