The end of Galileo in space. The start of Galileo in print. Vol. 1, Issue ii. November 28, 2003
Capital Punishment Chris Some people think “Capital Punishment” is the best way to deter criminals from committing murders or other heinous acts against society while other people think it is an just example of human’s instinct of revenge. In my opinion, “Capital Punishment” must be abolished for the following reasons. Firstly, it does not stop murders and other vicious crime from being committed. For instance, in the U.S. 38 states have the “Capital Punishment” and 12 states do not have. However, murder rates are not that much lower in states which have the “Capital Punishment”. Secondly, what if innocent people are killed? Actually, there have been several cases when people were convicted of crimes and sentenced to death, only to be found innocent later. A precious life is taken from his or her family. How are we going to do?
Finally, the act of killing a people, even under the law is still murder
and never be justified. It is only another form of revenge. Only God can take a
life. Nobody has the right to take another people life.
In conclusion, there is no social issue more controversial than
“Capital Punishment” because we are still undecided and cannot all agree or
what to do about it. I believe that “Capital Punishment” is not the best way
to prevent from committing vicious crimes for the reasons that I mentioned
before.
