EM Radiation Taskforce Report to the David Suzuki Foundation Oct. 28, 1999
PART 1: INTRODUCTION
The EM Radiation Taskforce, is comprised of professional and lay people, knowledgeable and concerned about the unregulated, exponential proliferation of nonionizing electromagnetic radiation -EMR- which we see as a threat to every species and to the global environment. We hope that by consolidating some of the vast body of evidence showing numerous adverse bioeffects caused by unnatural EMR, that the Foundation could see its way clear to collaborate with the Taskforce to help bring about the changes in this regard that will be required for planetary survival.
Life on earth evolved over millions of years in a natural and balanced electromagnetic environment. All biological systems are electrochemical in nature. Electromagnetism is the very heartbeat of life. Over the last century, the exponential growth of electrical technology with its concomitant electropollution, is posing a totally new form of stress that is threatening the viability of all life on this planet.
We would like to act as a resource for the Foundation on this issue. As an organization we have an extensive library and history of research, study and employment in the field of EMR health issues. We ask the Board to recommend that the Foundation incorporate the issue of electropollution as being a threat to all species in the same spirit that they have opposed the imposition of GE foods and so many other environmental hazards. In both cases entire ecosystems are being modified and experimented with on a grand scale, with unknowable results.
We ask the board to: consider endorsing the goals of the Taskforce to make the EMR environmental issue a priority concern; consider allowing the Taskforce to place articles in the Foundationsí newsletter; search for ways in which we can collaborate; act as reference for the Taskforce to potential funders; help launch initiatives to compile and disseminate EMR health effects research.
Taskforce Goals are to:
bring about changes to the Canadian Electrical Code that will improve wiring practices in recognition of the harmful effects of EM Radiation exposure caused by common incorrect wiring practices; complete overview of existing or proposed EMR guidelines in Canada and other countries; raise funds for independent research; raise public awareness of this growing threat to life by continuing to research and publicize past and ongoing findings; promote safer technologies with lower EM.Radiation emissions; bring about Government Regulations that recognize health effects of EM.Radiation exposure; act as advocates to protect public health; make this issue comprehensible to the public so that that they can see through lax safety guidelines and make informed decisions on EM.Radiation exposure issues; act as a library resource and information source to assist people suffering the effects of electropollution electrosensitivity (ES); actively network with community groups on EMR issues.
