Cellular phones, especially those that use the PCS digital signal are extremely dangerous to not only the user but also for the general public. The cell phone industry have not shown that PCS frequency-pulsed microwaves are safe for humans. In fact, two recent independent studies have indicated links between serious health effects and the type of electromagnetic radiation (EMR) emitted from their system.
A study by Dr. Lai and N.P.Singh, in 1994 at the University of Washington, Seattle, found single and double strand DNA breaks in animals exposed to cellular and PCS frequency microwaves. A study by Dr. Michael Reoacholi, in 1998, funded by Telstra (a telecommunications conglomerate in Australia) found a significant increase in B-cell lymphomas in mice exposed to long- term low- level frequencies in the cellular, PCS range. These changes occurred at what is known as " far- field exposures". This has implications for those living near transmitter sites, as changes in B-cells are implicated in 85% of all cancers.
In 1993 the North American cellular phone industry set aside 25 million dollars for research after several cases of brain cancer and cellular phone use was reported. It is now 1998 and not one test tube has gotten wet. Dr. Lai who was promised money in 1994 has not seen a cent. The money was spent however on public relations campaigns and workshops for cellular phone representatives, teaching them how to deflect public criticism of the safety of their system. These facts were all reported in the CBC program, Undercurrents, Sunday May 10, 1998.
Pro industry "experts" whether they be from the cell phone industry, the University, or our government parrot each other saying low intensity EMR is not harmful to humans. The problem for the corporations is independent research has shown that low intensity EMR is harmful. Given this situation would you want a cellular phone tower in your neighbourhood.
