Notes

Guillermo Wyld Quiñónes

Not certain that this person existed. Thomas Wyld refers to his
and
Dolores' child, William, in his letter to Dolores dated August

1847.

Soledad Ospina Chaparro

See www.ospinas.net for info on the Ospina family.

Florence Margaret Rowell

Florence attended nursing school at Winnipeg General Hospital, graduating in 1932.

She came out west in 1940 hoping to find a nursing position at the Victoria General Hospital. Having no luck in Victoria, she moved to Vancouver where she worked as a nurse at Vancouver General Hospital.

Florence married Art Watson at 2690 Beach Drive, Victoria: the home of her grandfather, Archie Fairbairn. The ceremony was held in the house because Archie was unable to get to a church due to physical infirmities.

Lorne Archibald Rowell

Lorne was legally named Lorne Norman in the hospital immediately after his birth; however, his parents thereafter decided he should have been named Lorne Archibald in honour of his maternal grandfather. It was not until years later, after his graduation from McGill University, that he learned his full legal name. Regardless, he went by Lorne Archibald Rowell.

The following alternative version of events was imparted to me by Pat Carfra (née Rowell) in an email dated November 14, 2003:

In terms of my dad's name, it was his father, Norman, who made a mistake when he registered the name as Lorne Norman Rowell, when it should have been Lorne Archibald. Maybe a little ego got into it? That's why on official documents, he often wrote, Lorne Norman Rowell, (known as Lorne Archibald Rowell).
