Was the first secretary-treasurer of the Edzell School District and held the post until 1919 when he left the district for Saskatoon.
In 1911, the Edzell Rural Telephone Company was organized mainly due to the efforts of James Lindsay and Isaac Cherry. Mr. Lindsay was again the first secretary-treasurer and remained so until 1919.
Lost his right hand in a threshing machine accident in Autumn 1911 on his brother David's farm. He was whisked to a hospital and when he was admitted, the doctor could not be found. When he was finally located, and the operation was taking place, the city's power went out. By then the damage to the ligaments and tissue was so bad that his arm was removed 1.5" above the elbow.
He was also active as a Sunday School superintendent.
Lived at 819 Avenue B, North, Saskatoon until shortly before he died.
