ARRIVAL DAY
Your Big Mountain Heliskiing adventure begins in Vancouver, BC where you will catch a one hour and fifteen minute airplane flight north. You will fly by some of the highest and most majestic peaks in British Columbia. This is a very exciting time for all of us as new and returning members of the BCHS family arrive. At the Bella Coola airport our BCHS staff will welcome you. We will transport you and your luggage to the West Coast Helicopter hangar just around the corner. Here we will serve you a hot lunch and begin the introduction to our guides and helicopter personnel, followed by a helicopter safety orientation, an avalanche beacon practice and the signing of our waiver of liability. The guides and pilot will also give you an up to date weather forecast and inform you about the snow conditions. Now grab your skis or grab one of our complimentary Rossignol fats and change into your ski gear, because it's time for BIG Mountain heliskiing and riding!
The Typical Day
Your day begins at the Brockton Guest House for an early breakfast. During breakfast you will receive an update on the snow, weather conditions and the day's activities from your guides. It is now time to have fun; powder skiing and riding from as early in the morning to as long as there is daylight………let's go for it! You will be transported with your guide to the helicopter hangar, just minutes away from the Brockton. Lunch is served in the mountains and consists of a variety of hot soups, gourmet sandwiches, baked goods and hot and cold drinks. Upon returning the hot tub, sauna and massage therapist will be available. After some relaxation it's time for dinner made with fresh local products. Your guide will disuss your daily vertical or fly hours count and the next days weather and snow report. After dinner you can relax in the common room by the fireplace or play darts, billiards and games. Maybe you'll choose to watch a movie or just head off to your room for a good night's sleep to ready for the next days BIG skiing.
DEPARTURE DAY
On your departure day you will be heliskiing or heli-boarding in the morning and then have a hot lunch at the airport. We ask that you have your traveling clothes ready to go as you will change at the airport. Now it's time to say adios and goodbye or "until next time", be prepared that this sometimes gets emotional. It is always sad to see our friends and family leave our Shangri-La in Bella Coola.
