METCHOSIN TODAY
Metchosin is a community of a little under 5,000 population and
has the usual municipal
officials. The area is rural with a number of smaller farms and organic
fruit and vegetable producers. The centre of Metchosin boasts a General
Store, an excellent Restaurant, a Store featuring local Arts & Crafts
, a fine Bakery, a Hairdressing Salon and two Service Stations. The municipality
has number of other small businesses operating within it's borders . Metchosin
is also the home to number of artists and frequent shows and displays are

The municipality is serviced by a dedicated group of Volunteer Firemen
which is part of the 911 telephone system, it also has an excellent Search
and Rescue Group.
A monthly paper "The Metchosin Muse" is distributed free to all
the residences in Metchosin. The newspaper can be reached as follows:

Metchosin is home to four institutions the first is the William
Head Medium Security Prison.
The second and far more exciting is the Lester B. Pearson College
of the Pacific. The college is situated on Pedder Bay and is a member of
the United World Colleges. The
Lester B. Pearson College of the Pacific home page is well worth a
visit if you have any interest in the flora, fauna and other natural sciences
of the area. The college also submitted a number of excellent comet photographs

The third and fourth institutions are Kindergarten to Grade 7 Schools
one being named Metchosin School and the other Hans Helgesen School (watch
for this name in the pioneer section some time).
Numerous special interest clubs exist in Metchosin such as
a Gardening Club, Conservation Groups, Cubs and Scouts etc. Should you

Metchosin is also blessed with abundant parks and trails. A number
of the parks are operated by the Capital Region District. Among the parks
are Witty's Lagoon Park, Devonian Park, Matheson Lake Park and the Galloping
Goose Park. The latter park is a linear park which consists of the right
of way of an old railroad line, this park stretches from Victoria to an
old abandoned mining town called Leechtown, a distance in excess of 40
miles. The use of the park is restricted to walkers, cyclists and horse
back riders. |
