PLAQUE FOR BLACK PIONEERS OF BRITISH COLUMBIA

The Historical Plaque on the left side of this page cites but a few of the earliest Black pioneers who came to British Columbia in 1858. Since the mid-19th century, many other Blacks have arrived and contributed substantially to this Province. Two major waves might be recognized: the first from this hemisphere in the mid 20th century, and a second wave more recently from Africa.

A few of these 20th century arrivals are also included in our stories section here, with many more to be added in the future. Those to be added will represent a wide range of outstanding individuals from the Black community of British Columbia.

The Society will also consider suggestions for additions of other biographies for our stories.
