The quintessential revolution is that of the spirit...It is not enough merely to call for democracy, freedom and human rights. There has to be a united determination to persevere in the struggle, to make sacrifices in the name of enduring truths, to resist the corrupting influences of desire, ill-will, ignorance and fear...

Saskatchewan Farmers Win Major Prize!
Story & Photos on Schmeiser farm in Bruno, SK by Theresa Wolfwood
Louise and Percy Schmeiser, who fought and continue to fight for the rights of farmers and against the power of corporations to control life, have been awarded the 2007 Right Livelihood Award (RLA), often called the Alternate Nobel Prize. The Schmeisers gained public attention and global support for their court and personal battles against Monsanto. BBCF helped Percy Schmeiser to participate in an Asian food security conference and then brought him to Victoria to speak in 2004.
The Jury of the RLA honoured the Schmeisers "for their courage in defending biodiversity and farmers' rights, and challenging the environmental and moral perversity of current interpretations of patent laws".
The RLA was presented in the Swedish Parliament in December. For info see: our stories on right side menu & www.rightlivelihood.org
