Thursday, May 20th, 2010 [8:30 am to 4:00 pm] for finals.

2. ATHLETE ELIGIBILITY - please take note of the following!!

This meet is open to Vancouver Island Secondary Schools registered for track and field with BCSS. This means that students must be eligible as per current BCSS regulations for Track and Field participation-- this includes registration with BC School sports.
* * Do NOT enter this Meet unless your school has registered a Track team with BC School Sports . One athlete is a team.. School authorization is part of the BCSS registration process

All schools must register their athletes on line with BCSS by April 19, 2010
Adding names to the BCSS registration form must be completed by MAY 3, 2010
Note that Gr.7 Athletes are NOT eligible for the Island Zone Meet ( as per BC School Sport Rules)

3. ENTRY RULES

a) Entry Rules for Bantam and Junior Events-
Bantams and juniors must qualify for the Island Championships through their area Meeets.
**New ** Each school must now register athletes that have qualified ( see #4 for entry process)

North Zone contact: Kathy Rung - Meet is April 24. 25 at Port Alberni -
Top 5 from each event qualify and must be registered to confirm participation

Mid Zone contact: Steve Ridenour at Mt. Prevost , email: sridenour@sd79.bc.ca. Meet is May 11/12.
Top 4 from each event qualify and must be registered to confirm participation

** New**There is now a BC Invitational Championship fo grade 8/9s. Most bantms ( and juniors?) can qualify for this event by achieving the entry standards. A bantam or junior age competitor could chose to compete in the OPEN category in one or more events at the Island Championships. The top 3 in the open category automatically qualify for BCs

Athletes will not be restricted to one age category in the Island Championship if they wish to compete in the OPEN category. Thus a Bantam or Junoir age athlete could compete with Senior Athletes from the same school to form an Open Relay team , or compete in other events in the open category, but will still be able to compete individally if they qualify in their own age category in a different event. Note: A Bantam can not move to the Junior category for a relay; only the OPEN category

important**, IF A QUALFIED ATHLETE IS NOT PARTICIPATING AT THE ISLANDS OR IS REGISTERING IN AN OPEN EVENT IN ORDER TO QUALIFY FOR BCs., SCHOOLS HAVE THE RESPONSIBILITY OF COMMUNICATING WITH THE COACH OF THE NEXT QUALIFIER TO INFORM THEM OF THE OPPORTUNITY TO PARTICIPATE

b) Entry Rules for Open Events
( This is the BC High School Championship qualifying category - the first three finishers in this category qualify for the BC High School Championships)
Each school may enter 3 competitors in any one field event and 3 competitors in any one track event.
Each school may enter 2 relay teams in each classification. Relay teams may have a substitute but this athlete must also participate in one other event during the meet. Entries must be signed by an authorized coach
Individual athletes may enter A TOTAL OF 3 individual events [track or field or a combination] plus 2 relays events ( 4x100 & 4x400) . Athletes can not run for more than one relay team, hey must choose which age class to run in for each event.
Coaches are asked to be as realistic as possible and only enter athletes who are committed to participating in the Meet.

4 .ENTRY PROCEDURE
There is a new On line Registration Process this year! ALL athletes must be registered on line at:_http://www.directathletics.com/help.html#

This is a new process for 2010, and information has been sent separately to all coaches with hints about entering Bantam, Junior and Open athletes for this Meet. Coaches should go to the site in advance set up your account by entering the team roster. Event entry and performance information can be added when ready. ( performance/ seed times are needed this year)

On line Entry will close at midnight Monday May 17 . 2010. Changes can be made on your registration right up until that time.We expect that this will allow you to make all needed changes and the team that arrives at the Meet will be the same as the one you have registered.

5. ENTRY FEES:
The entry fee is $50 per school plus $7.00/ registered athlete to a maximum of $200.00. Cheques are to be made payable to LVISSAA . Please arrange to pay at "scratch" table BEFORE Meet begins.
Reminder:if any registered athlete does not "show" schools are still responsible to pay for that person!!!

**Officiating sur charge- Track Meets require many officials. At the time of Registration, each school with more than 5 athletes, must indicate at least one adult official to assist at the Meet. If the school is unable to provide this official the cost will be $30.00. More information under "officials".

6 SUBSTITUTIONS( Alternates),ADDITIONS AND SCRATCHES

Jr & Bantam events: shall be permitted in case of illness or injury, ONLY if the alternate has qualified at their Area Meet. The names of the alternates must appear on results previously forwarded to the Meet Director .** If you know one of your athletes will not compete - please give ample notice to the school of the athlete, who would be highest(next) on the "alternate" list.

Because the registration deadline has been extended, the previously used "STICKER SYSTEM" will NOT be in place. A registration table will be set up under the scoreboard at the North end of the stadium. All entry lists will be posted at this location. Some provision will be made to handle entry errors and substitutions. Coaches must get authorization from the Meet Director or designate for any changes

7.TEACHER SPONSOR ( Supervision):

The coach and/or teacher sponsor must be in attendance at the track at all times a member of his/her school team is participating.
Coaches and/or teacher sponsors are responsible for track procedure, scratches, protests, etc. and are not to delegate this responsibility to students.

Teacher sponsors are to check that competitors are wearing team [school] tops. Jeans and cutoffs are not permitted

8. SCHOOL OFFICIATING RESPONSIBILITIES:
Track and Field is official intensive! Most of our officials are school volunteers.
We need help from every school to assist with the Track Meet operation.
The name of at least one official must be added to the registration for each NON LVISSAA school that has more than 5 athletes competing .Officiating commitments have been made with LVISSAA schools.Other( non- LVISSAA) schools may request a position, otherwise they will be assigned duties for at least one day . Duties will be sent out in advance if possible, but otherwise, the volunteer needs to check in with the Meet Director at the coach meeting. Volunteer Officials will have access to free parking on the day they are running an event and will be provided with lunch during their "shift".
If the volunteer does not attend, or a name is not supplied, a $35 surcharge is added to the school's registration fee.

9. SCHEDULE OF EVENTS: Events will proceed as stated on the schedule.unless number of entries causes cancellation of a heat. This will be finalized at the pre Meet Coaches' Meeting. Plan to atend this meeting at each morning

10. MEET RECORDS: Copies of the current records for each track and field event follow .. Meet Records

11. RESULTS: Results will be available on the LVISSAA website:www.sd61.bc.ca/athleticassoc/sports. These will hopefully be available a few days after the Meet.
