and individuals in two funded programs (Postpartum anxiety and depression program and a parent bereavement program) over the same period of time.  In these programs alone she has had experience with over two thousand individuals and couples and thousands of counselling sessions. This experience has contributed to her ability to help clients identify their problems and the appropriate solutions.  She has also worked with therapy groups and family units.

Joan's professional qualifications are a degree in nursing (BScN) and a degree in counselling psychology (M.Ed).  She has also received training in cognitive therapy, relationship enhancement, solution focused therapy, and EMDR (eye movement, desensitization and reprocessing).

Joan has been particularly interested in helping clients manage the problems of depression and anxiety, including:  panic, worry, frightening thoughts and obsessive compulsive disorder.   In couple and individual counselling sessions she is prepared to explore and help resolve problems that may include communication problems, life transitions, loss, parenting, health, burn-out, shyness and interpersonal problems of all kinds.

Lesbian and Gay individuals and couples have been a part of Joan's counselling experience and, of course, couple sessions have included all aspects of relating such as parent and adult child, siblings, friends, and business partners etc.
