Except for Waldman which people may want to purchase, I have not given dates of publication, etc. for the other works which are either out of print or very expensive.

  • Goldman, Irving, The Mouth of Heaven
  • Waldman, Carl, Atlas of the North American Indian (New York: Facts on File Inc.) A superb general reference book at a reasonable price, generally available.
  • Handbook of North American Indians Vol 7: Northwest Coast, (Smithsonian Institution.) A very rich source of information: see special articles on "History of Coastal British Columbia Since 1846', "The Indian Shaker Church;" "Tsimshianof Metlakatla, Alaska" (Re William Duncan); Mythology," "Kwakiutl: Winter Ceremonies" as well as consulting index on subjects such as "potlach" and "religion."
