Full Length books:
- C.A. Anderson Scott: New Testament Ethics: An
Introduction
This is the complete text of an excellent work first published in 1929. In .pdf format; if
printed out will form a neat booklet. (80 pages on 20 sheets of paper)
- Charles Williams, The Descent of the Dove
A thoughtful interpretation of church history from its origins to just before the Second World War. Like the work of Scott above it is in .pdf format and will print out into a neat booklet. (166 pages on 42 sheets letter size double sided)
- William Temple, Christianity and Social Order. A short work (prints out to 62 pages on 16 sheets of paper double sides) which sets out in great clarity some of the basic principles of how the Church should consider its duty to the society in which it lives. Obviously a work first published over fifty years ago will be dated in some respects but its compact nature makes it a good introduction to a very complicated subject.
- Gabriel Hebert, Fundamentalism and the Church of God. (120 pages on 30 sheets letter size double sided). One of the off-putting things about John Spong (apart from his trying to be such a smarty gaiters) is the somewhat aggressive attitude he betrays towards those who disagree with him. Gabriel Hebert, a member of the Society of the Sacred Mission (an Anglican religious order) combined a far better level of responsible scholarship along with a kindly charity in his discussion of conservative approaches to the Bible. Even those who disagree will find him sympathetic. First published in 1957 and subject to some obsolescence, this book nonetheless is well worth reading. I would like to express my gratitude to the Society of the Sacred Mission, holders of the copyright, for permission to reproduce this book. Anyone wishing to make use of this work other than for private use should contact the SSM for permission.
- Combined review of George R. Eves, Two Religions – One Church; Christopher Levan, Living in the Maybe. [.pdf 8 pages in booklet format]
