Your opinion counts!
As the season is winding to a close and the club begins preparing for next season it is the perfect time to let us know how we are doing. Did you have a wonderful coach? Let us know! Was some experience with the club less than ideal? Let us know that, too. PSA has implemented 2 surveys - one for players/parents, one for coaches - to let the club know how you feel about the club and what we can do better. Please take the time to fill out these short surveys located here Posted on March 12, 2008

Blue Heron Update - March 2008
To the members of Peninsula Soccer Association and the many businesses and sponsors of the Blue Heron Sport Field / Clubhouse development project, this update is long overdue. I apologize for its tardiness and can only offer that the committee has been active with many other aspects of operating the field. The clubhouse concept is alive and well. For any of you that saw the plans put forth when the three stage concept was originally done, you will notice a huge change. The original was a very attractive two storey building with lots of glazing, lounge, kitchen, and office space upstairs, with concession, change room, storage, and washrooms downstairs. This was a fabulous design, but with it came numerous concerns. Over the past couple of years the cost of supplies and building has skyrocketed, making this building's budget overwhelming to our fundraising group. There were also concerns about maintaining such a building after completion. Due to these reasons, a simple-use orientated building (or series of buildings) are being designed. They are one storey structures, concrete block exterior to withstand soccer balls etc., with shed roofs. The first building, or phase one, will contain concession (to generate income), storage (to save income) and washrooms (to make everyone happy). Phase two will contain an office, records storage room, first aid room, and classroom used for coach, referee, and team development. The third phase is simply a covered area for members to stay out of the weather. It will also aid our volunteers greatly when we need to expand outside at certain time of year with equipment distribution/collection, clothing sales, registration etc. For now the idea of having change rooms has been shelved. Due to the fact the majority of our members are children we do not feel that the change rooms would be used enough to justify the expense of building or maintaining them. It does not mean that they can not happen in the future. The simplicity of this design will allow for inexpensive re arranging of interior walls to allow for changes in the clubs future needs.
Please attend our AGM on March 12th to see the concept drawings. Val Scott-Moncrieff Chair, Capital Projects Committee Parent Volunteer Posted on February 29, 2008
Congratulations to U16 Boys Gold Boca Juniors and U18 Boys Gold Hurricanes
The Association would like to congratulate the U16 Boys Gold Boca Juniors and the U18 Boys Gold Hurricanes for their wins in the finals of the Lower Island Soccer Association/ BCSA Cup (B cup) competition. The U16 Boca Juniors with their victory over Cowichan now have to complete their run to the BCSA Cup (B cup) finals by winning a challenge from Upper Island. The U18 Hurricanes on the other hand with their victory over Gorge have qualified for the BCSA Cup (B cup) final because of no challenge from Upper Island. The BCSA Cup finals will be July 3rd-6th but the location is TBA. Both teams will also be competing in the Coastal Cup Competition. Congratulations to the U18 Girls Gold Impact on making it to the finals of the Lower Island Soccer Association/ BCSA Cup (B cup) competition. Unfortunately the outcome was not as happy losing to the U18 Gorge team. Posted on February 19, 2008

The Educated Parent
The BCSA technical programming exists to support and foster development and education from the grassroots to elite levels of soccer throughout British Columbia. This is primarily achieved under the various development branches, such as Grassroots, Player, Coaching, and Refereeing.
To add to these development branches the BCSA is very excited to inform the membership of a newly developed program designed specifically to the Education of Parents. The primary purpose for the creation of this program is because parents play a very important role in their child's soccer life. Click here for a detailed document.

Smoking ban for schools, public facilities and workplaces (Bill 10)
The province passed Bill 10 in the Spring of 2007 which bans tobacco use from schools, public facilities and workplaces. School District 63 recently sent out a memo that states they expect all staff, parents, visitors and students will adhere to this law. Note that this applies to school grounds and parking lots, not just inside buildings. Please read this document for complete instructions. Posted on September 18, 2007 |
