HELDOR SCHÄFER
Playwright & Stage Director
Heldor made his living as a journalist, editor and publisher of regional publications in the central interior of British Columbia for nearly two decades before embarking on his career as a stage director. During those early years the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation produced a couple of radio plays he had translated from the German, while the University of British Columbia film department commissioned him to subtitle the controversial Leni Riefenstahl documentary, Triumph of the Will.

Two of his stage adaptations of children's stories by Canadian author Jean Speare were presented in summer stock and at Expo 86 respectively, and his own plays have seen production in Canada, the USA, Europe, Britain, and the Middle East. I Wandered Lonely, appeared in Instant Applause II, an anthology of 30 short Canadian plays (Winnipeg: Blizzard Publishing, 1996).

Beside working as a professional executive artistic director, Heldor has done freelance assignments for semi-professional companies and also volunteered his services to amateur theatre troupes in a variety of positions such as stage management, sound design, lighting operation, and acting. He lives in Victoria, BC, Canada.
