Dale Spray

Dale Spray is a visual artist working mainly with mixed media and acrylic. He is a self taught artist and has not received any formal training in this discipline. Dale first came into contact with art when he started therapy sessions as a young man to try and work through issues related to anger, depression and anxiety. Through that experience he started to understand the world in which we live and chose to live as an artist. Art has now become his medium for sanity and his way of life.

Through art Dale has found a tool to physically and mentally channel his energies both positive and negative. He has found that all his emotions and feelings can be used in a useful form through art.

As you can see in the painting, Women in The Garden, Dale has come a long way since those first therapy sessions at age 20. Now he is 33 years old and is confident to access his emotions and explore them through his art work. He has exhibited and worked as an artist in the Downtown Eastside of Vancouver (Canadašs most economically deprived area) over the last couple of years, and has worked in a studio located in the woods near Squamish, BC for four years.

Dale Spray has been a member of Gallery Gachet The Artists' Collective for the past two years. Gallery Gachet is a unique artistic institution founded in Vancouver in 1992. Named after Vincent van Gough's homeopathic doctor, Paul Gachet, Gallery Gachet strives to provide a focal point for dialogue amongst outsider/ dissident artists. They aim to use the canvas of the outside world to educate and demystify the public on issues related to mental health and advance the artistic discourse therein. He is currently working and painting in Barcelona, Spain where he continues to use art as a tool for sanity and a means for creative self-expression.
