MAUI APRIL 6, 2004

This year I arrived in Maui on March 25th just to give myself a head start on the windsurfing season. The first few days were uneventful for windsurfing because there was no wind. Instead I went snorkelling over on Kihei side. I also bought a 9'2" Longboard and did some surfing up by Thousand Peaks. I met up with Victoria sailor Jeff Sutherland has been here for several months and he was preparing himself for the PWA Pro Event that was being put on at Hookipa Beach Park. The event started on March 29th and Jeff, unfortunately, ended up injuring his knee doing a really big forward loop on his first heat. Conditions were classic for the windsurfing event. In the end Jason Polakow won it, followed by Josh Angulo and Keith Taboul with Kevin Pritchard coming in fourth. On the womens side Motoko Sato beat out Karin Jaggi and Jenny Ellefson with Jennifer Henderson scoring fourth position. In the meantime, my first sailing was on the 29th at Sprecks Beach for some solid 5.0 sailing with waves 2-3ft. The next day was at Kanaha for some really gusty 5.0 sailing. I could have used a 4.5 that day. For the next few days it has been 6.0 Sailing at Kanaha or Surfing over on the west side at Laniupoka Park.
