Here are some of the advantages of using true hemp fibres:
CantivaTM brand tree hemp fibre is the first commercially available Chinese hemp fibre to be processed without the use of kerosene, a harmful petrochemical additive routinely used in bibre separations. It is only kerosene-free true hemp fibre available.
Master weavers advise dampenning the fibre before starting to spin it.
This reduces the "hairy" quality of the fibre. One method is to
dip your fingers in water, then run the fibre through your fingers as you
spin. Note also that the grey harsh-textured hemp fibre is used only for
rope. Soft white fibre is used for thread.
We would like to see weaving and spinning at as many guilds as possible
across Canada. Companies, groups or individuals with strong initiatives
are invited to exhibit their products made from hemp at the upcoming Commercial
and Industrial Hemp Symposium, to be held February 18th and 19th, 1998.
Any help in networking with people you feel would be interested in the symposium
is greatly appreciated. This initiative might help bring young people to
the guilds, thereby giving fresh wind to the many groups working to keep
these beautiful crafts alive and well for future generations. Moreover,
this international symposium offers an excellent opportunity to lead industrial
